    Throwing Med/Support Packs

I hope I'm not harming any kitties! I'm just kinda curious as to everyone's opinions about throwing Med or Support packs during an assault or sneaking mission. Sometimes I don't know whether or not to toss them to a squad mate in need cause I don't want to give away our position with the voice over that plays when you throw things. Then again, I really hope my squad mate isn't getting annoyed about having to wait to get healed or re-supplied. What do you gals and guys think?

Thats a good question. I never thought that tossing your med/ammo packs would give away your position.

I always try to toss them as I'm walking with my squad. But during a fire fight I don't throw them I just follow people around that I notice who are using their weapons a lot then I lay behind them for a while with the pack out.

Well if you're worried about giving away your position, then I assume you haven't started firing yet. In which case, the easiest thing to do would be to just heal/resupply your mate teh slow way by standing by him (or running next to him if you're moving) with the pack out.

It definately will give away your position. I was playing on Mashtuur City the other night and I spotted a guy because he threw out an ammo pack. We were on the flag at the Mosque and all of a sudden we were getting spammed by grenades. We thought they were on top of the Mosque. I just happened to see an ammo pack icon appear in the little hole south of the Mosque. One grenade in the hole solved our problem. I would not have spotted him had it not been for the ammo pack.

The best method when concealment is an issue is to hold the pack out. You can do this to resupply the yourself as well.

Same map (I can't remember the flag names): we were harrasing the flag in the south where the tank spawns. The CO didn't want us to take the flag, we were supporting another squad. Our AT guy kept firing rockets into the flag area with me standing behind him holding out a pack. We took down the tank a couple of times as well as keeping the vodnik out of action. It was very effective, we just had to stay mobile.

    my 2 cents
When sneaking around the side to a flag I reckon its best not to thow medic/ammo pacs because the icon can be seen by the enemy (as previously stated) also any enemy near by can also hear you. As Wimpinator says you can hold them and heal/resupply squad mates and this is unseen and silent to the enemy.

Agree 100% before firing. Once firing begins, all bets are off and you better litter that ground with medpacks and support kits. Medics should have more heals than revives, and too often the medics get there too late to heal them. Put them in your fall back positions and your guys when shot will trip over them healing themselves. If you play Support and don't have at least 10-15 re-supplies, your not doing your job. There should be no problems with killing 10-20 people and re-supplying your fellow troops.

Plus, you get a ton of points for doing it! The caveat of course is that TG is a little alike Who's Line is it Anyway where you can get a ton of points, but the points ultimately don't do anything.

    Re: Throwing Med/Support Packs

I agree with everything you guys have said. I guess my issue is more with impatient squad mates, probably because I play without a mic. Sometimes, when I feel like we should keep a low profile, the person I'm healing/re-supplying tells me to just throw them the pack in a very annoyed tone. Although I would consider myself a decently efficient medic/support, I'm always compelled to do what you TG'ers tell me just cause you told me. Maybe what I'm asking is for someone to tell me how to actually have people read what I type in the in-game chat

I know when I'm on defense and not sure where the enemies are coming from I immediately engage an area when I see a med/ammo pack show up. Usually you can catch them off guard because they are still getting oriented back into combat mode.

So my suggestion is don't throw down a pack unless you know a friendly is going to immediately pick it up. If they know where you are though blanket the area with packs.

I think it's the SL's call on this, and I believe there is an SOP that touchs on it as well (http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlef...iscipline.html). If the SL wants the squad to be sneaky then everyone should be sneaky, and no throwing packs. If it gets loud though, the rules change!

    Cheers.

    Re: Throwing Med/Support Packs

Even after it gets loud throwing packs can give away your plans and numbers. Players should not automatically start throwing out packs and SL shouldn't automatically ask for it. I can't count the numbe rof tiems I've seen a a row of ammo pack or medic kit indicators pop up showing me excatly what direction the squad we just engaged was planning to try and flank.

If just one guy has been seen and engaged, throwing packs can tip your hand and expose the fact that there are a pile of you there.

There are piles of reasons to be more careful about when and where you drop packs. I know I've scored lots of kills by tossing a grenade at that location where a bunch of packs started popping in.

FYI-- avoid picking up packs when you are flanking too. I've actually dropped packs along likely avenues of approach when I'm on defense. When the pack disappears it's likely that someone just showed up.

heh.. i like the outside the box thinking! but it's a pretty risky tactic... I mean... You're dropping health kits where you expect the enemy to be attacking you from!!

Can you even use the other side's med packs ammo packs? I didn't think you could.

For example, I'm a USMC Engineer and I run out of ammo and I happen to come across an ammo pack laid by an MEC Support Specialist. Can I pick that ammo up?
