Re: Using transport vehicles as defensive weapons

To me this issue is really about the lameness of the defensive MG placements. There is not a single MG placement I have come across in BF2 that is useful. For starters, they're always fixed LMGs, not .50 cals. For seconds, they always have some kind of OSHA-required safety guards that don't let you turn them far enough to cover the whole approach. For thirds, many of them are out in the open, rather than in the bunker where they'd make more sense.

If our mod team could fix this ... give us real fifties that cover a 180 degree arc and can elevate to handle jets and choppers, the need for using FAVs on defense decreases. Suddenly, sandbag bunkers are useful (imagine!), and vechicles are less interesting since the gunners are more exposed.

I have to disagree here. there is ONE good one I know of. Its the LMG on the roof at the Hotel Flag in Mashtuur. When the enemy has the Mosque you can strafe the life out of those poor suckers, esp when they try to get over the bridge. At least for the five seconds until Mantis snipes off the top of your skull. But, that's the only one I can think of.

Yea, I was about to say...from multiple angles that position is completely silhouetted against the sky and as such a sitting duck for snipers while manning that gun.

    In the pursuit of... something.

I totally agree, with the exception of the hotel flag on Mashtur. The MG emplacements suck.
