Nice write up Mantis! Here's one to add... get at least one person on your squad that recognizes what that strange blinking red arty symbol on the map means. So if your an SL an you didn't request an arty strike, it either means: a) your commander thinks he/she is trying to help by dropping an Arty on your spot or b) your commander doesn't like you.

The best bet is just to zigzag around. I've managed to survive many arty strikes by doing that, or going prone and getting up against a wall.

I have one question: Are the arty spots for some flags predefined? I know on Shakari on the City Entrance flag that the arty always hits dead on in the middle of the roof across from the flag.

I always hear arty when its firing. I also use onboard sound. Software > High, and EAX disabled.

Hm I have EAX enabled and I hear arty pretty well. I use headphones too, although I usually don't turn the volume up very high.

I don't use EAX because it uses more resources, everything on my end, seems WAY to loud.

adds spatialization to the sound... subtle "echo" effects that makes it sound more full/ambient...

Sometimes I hear it and sometimes I don't, it happened the other day on FuShe Pass. The squad I was in was defending a flag, and we got artied several times, some times I head it, other times, I did not. Odd, but somebody said "Artillery firing" most times anyway.

This is I think pretty essential for being able to pinpoint specific sounds.
Normally I can pinpoint most vehicles, their types, amounts, and direction of movement, due to the fact that I can hear very clearly and with more volume with my headphones on.

But it also helps to know how a commander likes to drop their arty on various maps, especially when the first arty shell generaly hits me
