It doesn't take 2-3 AT shots to take it down. It has very weak armor and will die from 2 AT shots. 1 AT shot gets it in the red. You probably saw the rocket hit even though it didn't. The effect is client side while the actual projectile is server side. Often in a tank you'll shoot something and it'll show the explosion on an obstacle right next to you but your shot will still hit where you shot it in the distance.

The guns are overpowered against air and infantry, it's basically 2 .50s mounted on the side. Also the fact you can repair from inside is a bit retarded.

The chopper just shouldn't have had any weapons.

Ya I did this last night on Midnight Sun. Beatnik and Rangersix probably have nightmares from the experience. Only went after infantry a few times when an undefended flag went neutral but 80% of my kills(38 when I left mid round) were on the chopper teams. My main goal was UAV support so I stayed up high but everytime a chopper appeared on the UAV or someone spotted one I dropped down and quickly took them out. All it takes is a good chopper pilot with steady aim and you can dominate any other chopper.

I can definitely say that 2 AA rounds won't take one down with full health. I hit one twice with 2 shots (different occassions) and it kept on flying, but smoking heavily. that's just not right, 2 AA rounds should take it down on full health.

Definitely overpowered, maybe it whould also be removed when attackhelos are

I wonder if letting the chopper limp home to repair would keep it out of action longer than killing it and the pilot respawning to a fresh chopper...?

is it not in our power to take off the guns and add 2 or 3 per map?

Guys I'm not sure these stories are accurate.. the little bird is HARD to hit given its small dimensions, but it is fairly sluggish in handling powered manuevers. It is also EXTREMELY lightly armored. An MG gun on a jeep can destroy this chopper on a single overheat cycle and a single directhit AT round or AA round will put it into the red. I'm not sure how these experiences are different from yours, but it is worth testing in a controlled situation absent game lag etc...

i find that it is a great support to infantry if the ground forces spot the enemies.
its also great for just mowin the enemies down if yer going down their line of defense

    Flight Characteristics:

I was curious as to how they would make this small aircraft fly. Those of you that are familier with the change in handling from the blackhawk down to the Cobra know it is pretty drastic. I wondered if the handling would be to that same scale for the oh-6 down from the Cobra- and if so would it be so damn snappy no one could fly it? However they seemed to have done something interesting. It is sharper than the Cobra but in a somewhat different way. The agility is clearly in the flight model. When you fly you definately feel as though you are in a much lighter airframe than the Cobra. I was easily able to take it under bridges and even fly sideways tracking and firing on a target. They are well suited to landing quickly although it has to be done carefully or it will take a ton of damage from the landing. I think they definately got it right when modeling the flight characteristics of the OH-6.

    Mission:

Heres the tricky part. I think the OH-6 will be a very valuable tool on the battlefield as long as the temptation to use it incorrectly is controlled. I know we would all like to do Blackhawk Down style rooftop runs against infantry but I just don't see this as an efficient way to use the vehicle.

What I found was that the oh-6 might be a perfect command and control vehicle. It is after all a scout helo and not an attack helo. The built-in radar scan, just like a uav, has width - not depth. This means I was able to take the bird high into the clouds and hover over key points of the map that needed a radar. I was able to operate above the range and view of any AA vehicles and frequently went unnoticed by the enemy aircraft flying below me. This would be perfect for one person working with the commander to identify sneak attacks or flanking enemy.

The other mission I see this bird fulfilling is troop insertion. This would be a more dangerous role as it exposes the OH-6 to fire. But as I mentioned earlier, the handling allows this thing to be flown mere feet off the ground and sideways! Basically a good pilot should be able to swoop in somewhere, drop people off in a hurry, and get out of the area. I think the oh-6 would be perfect for deploying squad leaders to far away unguarded bases or deploying specops near assests or bridges.

I believe there may come an opportunity when infantry may be identified out in the open and the oh-6 can make some strafe runs, but so far it seems to me that command and control and quick insertions are where this new aircraft will excel.

Also, something to add to this, The OH-6 is also very good at getting in really, really small places, and I dont even have the Special Forces thingy! Yay TV!
Yes yes yes, I have been gone.
But now.. I have returned for more bloody action.
    Well, minus the blood..
But you can call me... CAMEL.
