Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
yeah - SL should roughly never be on the flag... not so much to preserve a spawn point right at that very moment, but more just to survive in general... because, as you well know, when a flag goes white, bad things happen... Grenades bounce off your helmet, C4 suddenly explodes all around, tanks shell the flag, arty goes off, etc, etc...
The risk of loosing your SL just isn't worth the reward of the flag turning 4 seconds faster.

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
This probably wasn't the case in your particular episode, but one other thing to take note of: sometimes VOIP just craps out. One more than one occasion, I took the SL position (usually in the Air squad) and started giving instructions to the joining SMs. When I didn't get any feedback, I just asssumed that they didn't have a mike, but could hear me fine... only to discover after five minutes that I hadn't been transmitting anything at all!

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
You should make it a priority to stay alive and indeed never get on the flag, however I find it a bit lame to just act as spawnfactory. Instead try particatating in the attack in a way thats not getting you killed. The best thing is being on high ground and snipe with your assault rifle or even sniperrifle (I heard they are pretty strong), while at the same time spotting enemies.
The most important thing for a SL is to talk a lot. Even if you dont now what to say, just make something up. If youre attacking, think of a little plan. Same for defending. It makes the game more enjoyable.Last edited by Ol'Smoke; 08-31-2006 at 02:08 PM.

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
Hey, that's my secret.
Just ask the Squad members from Hotel_Cali.
click here for details. http://www.fbmantis.com/images/bf2/F...826-150342.jpg
They are lieing if they say i was running around screaming the following:
"OHH god, save me!!
"Save me Tom Cruise!!"
"Save me Oprah!!"
"Ohh god want someone help me! Somebody help meeee!!!!"
For real though, communication is important.
Remember to say u copy a transmission
Remember to say when u are dead. Nothing else sucks more for a Sqad Leader to see a mic up squad member get wasted on the top left scroller and not know about it. So report contact and causilites please.
Also report your squad number when talking to the CO.
Also tell your CO that u copy by including your squad number in the transmission.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
Staying alieve is paramount for the SL.
Looking at B. M., Duke's, ac01s, and the rest of the squad scores, u see that the squad was very busy with its score production.
Note, we were the only squad that had 6 squad members.
Are biggest fight came at Backyard.
me staying alive (good medic work) kept the squad around to keep presure on the flag were we capt it. Support from another squad was needed to get the job done.
During such battles, moving around is important and having your HuD on super size allows u to keep an idea on any armor or heavy troop loads. Furthermore keep a lock out for arty. When the super studs are doing their thing they are so focused on the battle they may not hear or see the arty icon.
SLs need to circle the flag to confuse the direction of the attack and numbers of the attack.
Also medics, when u spawn drop a bag down for your SL.
Same goes for amo.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
good point.
During the melee at Backyard this is cool cause bullets and frags were all over the place.
Dureing more stealthy tasks, medic and support spawning should not take place. Just walking up to the SL with a bag of health or goodies in your hands to prevent the enemy from hearing and seeing u is needed often.
another example of all the variables that players need to master to have the edge needed to have a 1/1 kill death ration at TG.
Again, good point.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
I once had a conversation with E-Male at the end of a round when he was squad leading,
his score was like 4 points, he said that was a good score for a SLer, and that a SLer avoids personal combat and instead give orders & is the tactically placed spawn point.
I agreed with him completely, in theory a squad leader could do a fantastic job and get a nil score at the end !
So forget shooting people when SLing, get really good at running away !
Another idea is to call your squad "New SL" so people know what they are getting, and you will find people joining your squad to help out.
lastly, as SL look at your map 7 times more than as a SM. and on the map have your squad expanded, so you can always see instantly who is alive or dead.

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
There are different types of squadleading. The most important thing I believe is for the squadleader to keep an eye on the overall picture of the combat. Have a look at the map and check where the other squads are attacking/defending. If you are on bleed you will usuall need to get anothe flag. If defending find a good spot for overview that gives you decent cover, if attacking stay back. The spawnpoint is often make or break. Usually the squad can organize themself as long as you point out the main objectives.
When it comes to style I will be agressive when defending but more passive on attack other SLs will hold back in both situations - but heck I need a bit of fun as well
Lastlyl, have medics on your team......--

Re: Tell your SL what he's doing wrong
I leave a squad for one of these reasons:
1- The SL is not communicating
Thats is an obvious one. If I do this I will tell the SL, but he probably won't hear it.
2- The SL has a style of play that doesn't fit me too well. I usually don't say anything about this, because I do not want to get the SL down. Maybe I should though.
On the whole I don't like to keep attacking, and prefer a slower moving, defensively orientated squad.
From this I can give you a tip Lorian. What I often do is make a squad, and name it ~ the style of play I will be going. Usually my squad will be "defense" "boatride" (for silly maneuvers) or something like "ambush/c4trap).
I have had squads bailing on me quite e few times, and I think it mainly has to do with
- The style in which you communicate: you can't do much about this, personal preferences play a big role here (are you talkative/silent, a strict/loose leader).
- The style in which you play: it is here that m tip has most effect. Players will know beforehand how you will play, and as suh they are much more likely to stay.
This second remark is really what makes the difference between people staying or leaving I feel.
Good luck Lorian and just keep at it.What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg
