0.8 Crashing to Desktop
That's right folks.
I use Fileplanet. Installed (uninstalling 7.5 before hand).
Restarted.
Deployed, connected to the net, found TG and!
CRASH! to desktop.

Did it again, uninstalled, rasp, blah poopoooooop and... CRASSSH!
Alot of people are reporting this. Has anyone found the reason why? ATM the projectreality forums themselves, do not seem to know the reason.
Post here if you have the same problem or know the fix. Or it seems I am going to have to try another place to download and start all over again.
Being a computer Homo erectus I have no clue. Someone mentioned the Mod file in the BF2 file in Programs. Is this the culprit? Delete this file and somehow get the new PR files in there (being a ponker I cant do that manually, hence having to find a place other than Fileplanet to do the job for me).
Grump and cry

Re: 0.8 Crashing to Desktop
Taipen - make sure you uninstall all prior versions of PR, then make sure you've deleted any PR folders under \mods in your battlefield directory, then install core, then levels. You should be good.

What resolution are you running PR on?

Re: 0.8 Crashing to Desktop
sorry for such a dumb question, but how do you uninstall the old PR?

Re: 0.8 Crashing to Desktop
I just fixed my buddy's crashing problem by completely uninstalling BF2 & deleting all PR files (including the ones in My Documents>BF2.)
1)installed vanilla BF2, & updated to 1.4 patch.
2)installed 0.8 core.
3)installed 0.8 levels.
4) Updated his Video card drivers, DirectX, and put his bf2 settings on low/medium. (we also defragmented his hard drive and other basic computer cleanup).
(I also saw a lot of crashes on another friend's computer when he was trying to play with 4 gigs of ram on Windows XP 32-bit).|TG-X|WAREHOUSE

Re: 0.8 Crashing to Desktop
I had same issues last night. I changed res, but it would CTD after a while. I will try the uninstall/reinstall Warehouse did.
Sometimes I rip, other times I RIP.

I uninstalled .75 patch,
.75 core
.75 levels.
Ran registry cleaner.
Retstarted.
Ran registry cleaner again.
Installed .809 core.
Restarted.
Installed .809 levels.
Restarted.
Prayed.
Changed shortcut ending to match screen res.
Prayed once more.
Started PR.
Worked great.

Re: 0.8 Crashing to Desktop
make sure that after uninstall, you manually navigate to:
Program Files\Battlefield 2\mods
and delete any directory in there that is "pr"
sometimes uninstalls (on any game) leave stuff behind that you have to manually delete.

Re: 0.8 Crashing to Desktop
For some reason so far I've only noticed myself crashing to desktop on Kashan 64, I havent played all the other maps yet but basrah and even the new huge insurgent city did fine with me and hardly any lag... I didnt uninstall the old PR before installing .8 and levels, and I was running 1024 until I just switched it down to 800 and Kashan still seems to crash although it takes a lot less time for my system to stop freezing up afterwards...
Think uninstalling everything (not vanilla) then installing PR and levels would help?
Edit: Did delete any sign of PR ever being on my system, installed the PR core then the levels, tried entering server playing kashan, closed to desktop before even got to loading screen,Last edited by 206 Wolfpack; 08-30-2008 at 02:45 PM.

Re: 0.8 Crashing to Desktop
Deleted pr folder and installed pr .8. Attempted to join server and crashed to desktop.
Next instructions would be helpful.
Updated punkbuster, same result.Last edited by LpBronco; 08-30-2008 at 02:27 PM. Reason: Update
