    Re: PR Technical Problems Thread

So, yesterday I blue screen of death crashed 3 times shortly after loading Korengal valley. And was unable to play in the Insurgency World series. My 1st thought was just to reinstall PR and BF2. This did not work. So in order to open the crash dump files I downloaded debugging tools for windows. Here are the results, it clearly says that nv4_mini.sys is the problem, my question is how do I fix this? This is pretty technical stuff, does anyone have any ideas, it would be appreciated.

I assume you have an Nvidia card? Try reinstalling/updating your graphics driver.

If that doesn't work, clear the '...\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache' folder, remove your current Nvidia driver, reboot and then install the latest driver for your card.

I have tried this, I still have the same issue. Its clear that it is driver related, I just dont know how to fix this. Somehow this problem just started on its own, PR and BF2 was working fine just 2 days ago. I have not changed a thing.

Hmm, then I suggest you Google 'nv4_mini.sys', I found a lot of topics but currently don't have time to dig into them. It seems you 're not the only one with this problem though.

I get this problem as well, but i just put up with it though as it only crashes every 4-5 maps. i have never really been able to fix it, it just comes and goes. On the bsod it says something about nv4.dll, so if you do solve it, I would be very grateful if you post how you did it. Thanks!

Well, my BSOD problem is resolved by simply turning off SLI in the Nvidia control panel. I have (2) Nvidia 8800GT cards. So I guess the second card is bad. I'm not sure. Its working for now.

    Re: PR Technical Problems Thread

I must say that I absolutely HATE punkbuster. I just spent the last two and half hours trying to get on TG, or any server, to play for even a minute. Every time I get the stupid pnkbstrb failure bullcrap.

Sometimes, it's running, sometimes it's not. It seems to load and quit whenever it likes. Sometimes it's listed in my services.msc, sometimes it's not. How can it just remove itself for no reason?

I've done the whole pbsetup and pbupdater crap (which you shouldn't even have to do, it should just WORK) and still, I spend all that time waiting to load into a server, only to get booted 20 seconds in.

It's not a firewall problem, I've only got windows XP firewall, and I turned it off.

I'm done. Even if PR was a full virtual reality simulator, it wouldn't be worth all this aggravation.

    Where's my 2142 disc........

    End rant. Sorry.

    Good to hear .

I noticed today at work when messing with the Nvidia drivers that the 'nv4_mini.sys' remains on the system when you remove the drivers using the add/remove programs option in the control panel (even after a restart it 's still there). Therefor I 'm not sure if an upgrade/reinstall will overwrite the file.

Guru3D has a driver sweeper app that will clean up all remaining files after an uninstall, tried it today and it works fine:

    Worth a shot .

I need some help, I started CTDing today and can't figure out whats going on. I've CTDd roughly 10 times so far, I've re-installed PR, I've updated my graphics, messed w/ my settings, and restarted my computer. I get no error message telling me the problem, its just everything running ok... then it shuts down. Does anybody know what the problem could be?

Does it crash randomly during a game or on mapload?

Yep, I decided to go ahead and uninstall vanilla bf2 and pr completely, and I'll be reinstalling it soon. Hopefully that will fix it.

EDIT: Just finished reinstalling vanilla BF2, patch 1.41, and PR. I went on the TG server and seemed to be ok, but then I got kicked by PB for not having the up to date version of PB, so I installed that, hopped back on the server and w/ in a few moments of being on (much much less time than when I was using the older, out of date version of PB, and when I was using that version I didnt CTD, I just returned to the server list page) I got CTDd.

My game crashes after 4-5 map loads
    so far

Always crashes while loading a big map (kashan, quinling etc...)
Always crashes when it tries to enter the map.
Reinstalled my drivers and BF2 and PR and nothing helped.

It happens every 5 or so maps and I can live with it just wanted to see if there's any fix.
