Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
solved problem: win7 and no textures
if your game looks like this:
disable aero style (just change to a not aero style) and it will work. (also you can disable AA but i think you dont want to do that)

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
Maybe someone can help me out here. No luck over on PR's forums.
Everytime I join a new map my VOIP takes a few minutes to start working, I cant hear anyone or transmit. Usually last about 5mins everytime I load a map. My mumble works fine and isn't affected by this.
Due to this error I miss out on the briefing before the game and what not. It only started doing this a few weeks ago.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
This used to happen to me, a friend told me that holding tab and going to the "players" section and muting and unmuting myself would fix it, in most servers(like TG) it did, but there were a few where nothing would happen.
If that doesn't work I think its just the time your computer takes to connect to the VOIP.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I on the other hand am having a problem I really can't figure out.
IAlright heres my problem, I went through all the steps as followed,
Installed BF2, installed v1.41, installed v1.5
Installed PR .87 Core, installed PR .87 Levels.
I installed BF2 and PR on a NON-admin account, after installing and restarting my comp I changed my account into an administrative one. I went into my computer because I had deleted the shortcuts. I went into --> C:/Program Files(x86)/EA Games/BattleField2/mods/pr, I created a shortcut for the pr App and tried to run it but within seconds it said "pr.exe has stopped working" and then it proceeded to try and work out the problem and failed. Then I tried to run the file straight from the folder, same problem. It says the same thing when I right click and run in administrator mode.
I am stuck, at first I thought maybe it should have been saved to plain old program files and not (x86) but am not sure what the diffrence is.
My account is set as an administrator and whenever I click on the shortcut it asks me if I want to allow changes to my account by Project Reality(unkown publisher) and when I hit yes a second later pr.exe pops up in task manager and then just seems to die. I just changed from an old Dell Dimension 8800 with XP to a Dell XPS studio with Win7 and untill now most of it was going well.
Specs:
Dell XPS Studio: Nvidia GTX 260, 8 gigs of RAM,windows 7 x64- Antivirus/firewall: Trend Micro- windows firewall is turned off.
I posted this on the PR Support forums but its been 3 days since any good info and I cannot wait any longer to start playing
If anyone has any idea what the problem is or how to fix it please post it.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
I have a performance problems, on maps such as Fallujah West and Muttrah City.
For understanding here are my specifications;
AMD 3800+ single core processor ( runs at 2.5 MHZ), 2 GB of RAM and ATI 4850 1GB.
Undeniably my processor and DDR1 ram are my bottleneck, but I can not run those maps properly on medium settings without major lag. I get 15 FPS until it starts cutting down my framerate , making it almost impossible to play. Yesterday I raged quit on Fallujah because quite frankly I couldn't play due to the lag issues, where everything was like in a comic book- picture after picture.
In response to those problems I created a 20 GB partition just for PR and it's own XP where there is only Mumble,Xfire and Teamspeak installed to minimize those problems. So there aren't any background programs running to cause this, but the problem still persists.
Do you think there is nothing more I can do with those components installed, or is there any tweak rather than lowering my settings to absolute minimum subsistence level.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
Get a program called gamebooster to cut down unneeded parts of windows and increase your free memory.
Its probably going to be memory because PR does use more then 2gb altogether quite often unless you forgo the improved graphics
You dont need a fast processor to run bf2, its a simple game and theres no AI. You do need to throw around massive amounts of textures though, more so then any other game in existence probably
1GB on your graphics card should be enough so its definitely fixable I think. How much AA do you use
The game will load textures from the hard disk until you have viewed every last part of the map in a game. Use a utility called jkdefrag to organise the game on the hard disk sequentially
How many hard disks do you have? Make sure the hard disk has 20% free space, a partition doesnt help really but the clean windows is good

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
It's set to zero. How much AA do you use
I only have one, I formatted it completely two weeks ago and made two partitions, one for win7, and one for XP.So it's a fresh install of Windows XP. XP partition has about 10 GB left, while win7 partition has about 200 GB.How many hard disks do you have? Make sure the hard disk has 20% free space, a partition doesnt help really but the clean windows is good
I've used all of my 4 slots with 512 MB RAM, and 1 GB DDR RAM is very, very expensive.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
What speed ram do you have. With the processor speed its better to have 10x250 then 12.5x200 because this will increase your memory bandwidth
The single hard disk is a negative because your computer will be using the pagefile in game I think.
So its juggling basically and this halves the disk bandwidth because it has to read the textures and write the pagefile and place both into memory while doing so I think
Press ctrl alt del before playing a game so you have task manager running alongside PR then take a screen shot of the memory used after a game or just tell me the commit charge
Rivatuner has a screening utility that would display on screen the memory used like a fps counter. Theres various tools that could be used to show where the bottleneck is

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
I can tell you right now; before playing it uses about 250 MB of ram, while playing it uses 1.9 GB of ram.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
I used to play bf2 on win xp and I only had 512meg at the time. It just about worked if I got windows down to 100 before entering the game and also I had the pagefile on another disk.
I'd play one game through and it'd lag while loading textures then the game after (had to stick to one map servers) it would be lag free.
Im pretty sure your problem is memory and you can lower that memory figure if you want to test it out by doing a couple of things I mentioned and also skip those other programs you run while testing at least
Otherwise you could try using benchmarks and seeing what kind of performance you get, unfortunately none of them really saturate the memory but it'd at least rule out the graphics card having lag
Pr uses tons more memory then bf2, unfortunately I dont think there is any setting below medium on pr so you cant cut that back. Maybe reducing resolution would confirm this is the problem

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
I think you can solve it with what you got. Just got to cut back the unneeded parts.
I only have 2gb myself and a 1gb 4870. Probably better to confirm what the problem is before spending cash.
If you run do start > run > msconfig and see what it says in startup. Its likely loading alot of things you dont need, hence the 250mb before entering the game
Defrag the game directory as well
PC3200 400MHz
Thats a good speed but 500mhz would be better if you could use it. What motherboard is it

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
The hard drive is always the bottleneck, thats the slowest part of the system. You should be able to run PR decently with that rig, i have a weaker system except an X2 3800 and i have no problems.
Make sure you defrag your hard drive with a 3rd party program, not the one included in windows. There are programs that can defrag and relocate selected files to the outer edge of the disk, where it can be accessed faster.
Also don't put the page file on the same partition, ideally it should be on a different harddrive, the fastest one.
Ultimate tip to make sure the HDD won't bottleneck the whole system is to get an SSD.
However, even though PR is not a CPU hungry game, calculating destroyable object collisions takes a lot of resources. Those maps you mentioned have a lot of them, so overclocking your processor could give some extra performance.
They way you describe it, 15 fps in the beginning and decreasing, can also be caused by the ram filling up too fast so it has to use the HDD instead which is a lot slower.
This can be fixed by setting the textures to medium, which is recommended anyway if you have no more then 2 gigs of ram.
