    Re: PR Technical Problems Thread

Alright heres my problem, I went through all the steps as followed,
    Installed BF2, installed v1.41, installed v1.5
Installed PR .87 Core, installed PR .87 Levels.

I installed BF2 and PR on a NON-admin account, after installing and restarting my comp I changed my account into an administrative one. I went into my computer because I had deleted the shortcuts. I went into --> C:/Program Files(x86)/EA Games/BattleField2/mods/pr, I created a shortcut for the pr App and tried to run it but within seconds it said "pr.exe has stopped working" and then it proceeded to try and work out the problem and failed. Then I tried to run the file straight from the folder, same problem. It says the same thing when I right click and run in administrator mode.

I am stuck, at first I thought maybe it should have been saved to plain old program files and not (x86) but am not sure what the diffrence is.
My account is set as an administrator and whenever I click on the shortcut it asks me if I want to allow changes to my account by Project Reality(unkown publisher) and when I hit yes a second later pr.exe pops up in task manager and then just seems to die. I just changed from an old Dell Dimension 8800 with XP to a Dell XPS studio with Win7 and untill now most of it was going well.

    Specs:
Dell XPS Studio: Nvidia GTX 260, 8 gigs of RAM,windows 7 x64- Antivirus/firewall: Trend Micro- windows firewall is turned off.

I posted this on the PR Support forums but its been 3 days since any good info and I cannot wait any longer to start playing If anyone has any idea what the problem is or how to fix it please post it... Great now the holiday map pack is out and I'm missing it! Please help.

Delete your install, log in as administrator and install fresh again (both BF2 and PR). Most likely there was something during the install that did not run properly due to being in a non-admin account.
Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

I decided to go for an upgrade anyway ( don't want to joggle to stay afloat).

I'll buy some corsair RAM and duo core processor from Buflax.

Did it, works like a charm. Thanks for the help, was really hoping I wouldn't have to reinstall everything but oh well! Looks great, feels great, I'll see you all in game.

I decided to buy BF:2 through Steam and wanted to try PR out. Only problem is I'm getting a shortcut error. I think that I can't play it through Steam.

Im pretty sure you need to have the PR shortcut on the desktop to make it work. Did you get any serial key from steam ? If you did, you can install it without steam and get the shortcut on the desktop.

No I didn't get the key. The shortcut seems to be correct.

    "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"

That's the shortcut. Maybe I should restart my computer?

    Re: PR Technical Problems Thread

Found this quote from an R-DEV:

You can get steam to run it from PR.exe.

The best way to do it imo is to go to 'add a non steam game', click 'browse' and navigate to pr.exe. Add that to the list, right click -> properties, change the name to 'Project Reality', change the 'start in' to the battlefield 2 folder, and add any command line arguments you want (e.g. widescreen resolutions etc.)

That way it won't interfere with having vanilla on the list, and it uses the PR icon for it.

Did that, but it won't work. Maybe I should restart my computer?

EDIT: Tried restarting, no dice. My 'Start In' path is set to the PR.exe file in the PR folder. I don't get why it won't work.

    solution for crash by start:

if you set up your new system some nvidia and ati drivers set the refresh rate to 59Hz in the driver thingy.

PR wouldnt start with that setting cause it wants 60Hz.

set it to 60Hz and it will work.

    Re: PR Technical Problems Thread

I haven't tried that. Not sure I am running it as an admin.

EDIT: Do you want me to run them at the same time? Because I started BF2, logged in, then exited before trying PR. It didn't work.

Don't run regular BF2. And make sure you're running as admin.
