Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
Well I'm glad to hear you got it sorted. It always feels great to be able to get some seemingly insurmountable technical problem fixed so you can play your favorite game, dooesn't it?

I remember I got away from playing PR for months after one certain patch came out because I couldn't get it to work. Came back to it after a few months and performed the nuclear option (complete uninstall of PR and BF2, and careful reinstall from scratch) and that took care of it for me. And luckily (knock on wood) no problems since...De Oppresso Liber

Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
I've nuked Oblivion six times already in the past 48 hours. Steam keeps reinstalling it with all of the old mods I don't want anymore intact. The whole point of nuking it in the first place was to get rid of the mods. I don't have any restore points before the mods, either. GRRRRRRR....
But anyway, I'm just glad PR works now. I haven't noticed any TG servers, though, or at least not in training. I know the infantry course was yesterday, but I assumed there'd be a general sever up in case people just want to mess around.

Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
Nah, we dont have a dedicated training server. For just messing around, I highly recommend following my earlier suggestion and running a local training mode server (nobody will be able to join and you dont need a separate computer, it just loads a training mode map and allows you to play around on it). If you want to get some actual play time in, join up on the actual TG server (you can find it by typing tacticalgamer into the server browser...and yes, there is no space).
Some recommendations when you join though:
-Look for squad leaders wearing tags you see around the forums. TG tags are a good place to start, but there are also lots of other GREAT squad leaders from other communities and clans that frequent our server. the ? guys are great, as are any people you see wearing R-DEV tags. Theres lots of them on our server so you shouldnt have too tough of a time.
-Secondly, when you join up, make sure you let your squad leader know you're new to the game. Try to keep up and ask questions as necessary, but a tool I found handy when I started playing PR was to have a pen and pad next to my computer to write stuff down so that I didnt wind up asking the same questions over and over.

Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
Thanks for the info, but I'm actually in a TGU server now. Nobody else is, but....
EDIT: Urgh, just got kicked. Got another PB error to look up now *sigh*
EDIT AGAIN: Might be the fact that my BF2 is Steam. In order to get PR working for the Steam version, I had to use an AutoHotkey file that I believe modifies the BF2.exe. According to the Internet, the error I got stems from having a modified BF2.exe. In short, the reason PB is kicking me is the same reason I can play the game in the first place. Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
If you're having that much trouble with it and it stems from the fact that its a steam version, I'd go out and buy a solid copy ($10 at best buy). Either that, or if you have access to your actual EA CD-key, just download a copy from the interwebs and use your cd key. Once you have the 1.5 patch installed, you no longer needs the discs anymore, so it wont matter much anyway.

Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
I might just buy a physical copy. Only reason I got it off Steam is because they had the complete collection on sale for $7.50. Guess it's only good for playing with bots now.

Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
Pretty much. Plus, none of the addon packs are really worth it. I also think I remember something about all of them being included in the 1.5 patch.

Re: New to PR, got a feq questions and a problem
Good news. Due to the infinite power of the Internet, I found a special .exe (that apparently doesnt get recognized as modified by PB) that allows you to play PR on Steam BF2 using the regular PR.exe (instead of the Autohotkey thing I've been using). So far, it seems to be working!

Good to hear that you might of found a way to play PR without all the PB problems, I know how annoying it can be.

Sure thing. I just gotta make four more posts after this one so I can get permission to post links. I'll edit this post with the link once I have permission.

Sorry for the double post, but for some reason I can't edit my previous post. Anyway, here's the link to the fixed BF2.exe.

PR Steam Fix!
This is for anyone who has the Steam version of BF2 and would like to play PR.
I had a major problem with playing Project Reality on the Steam version of Battlefield 2: The Complete Collection where Punkbuster would kick me for many reasons. I used the Autohotkey fix, but this is modifies the BF2.exe, which Punkbuster doesn't like. However, I found a repalcement BF2.exe that Punkbuster does not recgonize as modified, from my experience. All you do is replace your current BF2.exe with the new one, and you can run PR from the PR.exe, just like anyone with a hard copy of the game would!
NOTE: You must be a member of the Project Reality forums to download the file.

IMPORTANT: Punkbuster also does not like it when you run the Steam community overlay while running BF2. Turn this off in your Steam settings.
Do these two things, and you should be able to play PR just fine!

I'm moving this to the technical problems thread so it is easier to find in a search.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
I'm having trouble connecting to the TG Public server. I kept getting a message whenever I tried to connect saying I was kicked because of "the game, and admin because of excessive teamkilling or my a successful kick vote." That might not be the exact wording, but it's as close as I can get. I forgot to take a screenshot.
Anyway, what's the deal?GEORGE CARLIN QUOTE OF THE MONTH: "The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments in a courthouse: You cannot post “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” and “Thou shalt not lie” in a building full of lawyers, judges, and politicians.
