I checked my firewall and all seems to be ok there. Last time I took FW down and it didn't helpped at all. Dammed!! I like PR... but can't play it now. version 0.8 worked very well. Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
THere's something you can try if you have vista http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-...bit-users.html .. But if you have XP it probably won;t work, I lowered my textures to medium and it helped reduce the ratio of CTDs.. I guess it depends on your system. Hoping there will be a fix soon maybe?!..

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
The tacticalgamer bf2-server got project reality mod, right? I wonder if the mod is downloadable as a torrent.
I can't download via the internet explorer because I don't have enough space on harddrive C. And downloads go through C, then out to the harddrive i've selected to save it to. It's like that in every browser. The only way I can download games or other big size-files is through µtorrent or steam.

Official torrents are available on their download page.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
I get horrible FPS on all maps although I do not run into the crashes and I do not have rubber banding issues (and I know that I can get decent FPS on the maps as I got them during testing).
What is a good way to check RAM/VRAM/GPU usage while playing? I know my CPU is not maxed out and the RAM/pagefile doesn't appear to be heavily used per the task manager.Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
for some reason lowering your view distance to 98% have helped some people it seems. You might want to try that
If people are becoming so bored when playing that they have to resort to this immature behaviour I will give them something to do, call it a project. The project is "appeal a ban". - Wicks

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
Nope.
Current settings:
View distance 80%
All settings low or off
4x AA as it is roughly the same FPS as AA off and I can't stand not having AA
I worked my way down to 80%. I can play some maps with 20-50 FPS, mostly 20, but urban maps/forest maps top out at 20 and can go as low as 1FPS, such as Iron Ridge. The only thing I haven't tried is changing resolution from the native setting (1440x900) to something else. I have no crashing issues or rubber banding.Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
here are a couple of fixes i found at the PR forums...
After upgrading to 0.9 i had Crash to Desktop on every map change. No error message or anything like that, it disappeared and i was on the Windows XP desktop again.
Things that where wrong and i was able to fix:
1. Since i know from experience that this is usually a memory problem i checked the page file size and my hard disk fragmentation and realized that there was not enough continues space are any page file any more. The installation if 0.9 over 0.8xx had totally fragmented the hard disk . i have to admit i did only have 30GB free of 160GB harddisk. So the solution was to defragment the harddisk to free up enough space for a page file.
2. Shader creation. I noticed that the shader files where recreated. So there is a chance that something went wrong in the transition from 0.8xx to 0.9. So I just deleted the Battlefield2 folder in the My Documents folder. Beware, when you do that you will start with plain settings and you need to enter your account again and set all the settings that are different from the default. I was able to set the video settings to high again with a resolution of 1680x1050Virtual memory (Page File)
The paging file is widely known as the windows virtual memory file. This file is used by the system when the windows run short of the actual RAM. Windows keeps on increasing and decreasing the size of the page file, which in itself is not very efficient. This affects the accessibility of fragmentation of your files. You should rather define your own paging size. Select the minimum and maximum size of the virtual memory to be the same. <<(This one really works well). A preferable size is about 1.5 times the RAM you have.
To enhance performance, it is good practice to put the paging file on a different partition and/or on a different physical hard disk drive. That way, Windows can handle multiple I/O requests more quickly. When the paging file is on the boot partition, Windows must perform disk reading and writing requests on both the system folder and the paging file. When the paging file is moved to a different partition, there is less competition between reading and writing requests.
To access the Page file in Win XP
In Windows XP go to My Computer, right click it and then choose Properties, go to the Advanced tab, click the Settings button in Performance. Then click the Advanced tab and the click the change button in Virtual memory.
Now you can view and set the parameters you need.
Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, type a new paging file size in megabytes (MB) in the
Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set.
Make shure you set the Initial size and Maximum size to the same amount (about 1.5 times your Physical Ram)
If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum paging file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. When you increase the paging file size, you typically do not need to restart your
computer.
For best performance, do not set the initial size to less than the minimum recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system. Usually, you should leave the paging file at its recommended size, although you might increase its size if you routinely use programs that require a lot of memory.
If you do put the file elsewhere, you should leave a small amount on C: - an initial size of 2MB with a Maximum of 50 is suitable - so it can be used in emergency. Without this, the system is inclined to ignore the settings and either have no page file at all (and complain) or make a very large one indeed on the C: drive.
Virtual memory does have its limits and these limits can be very 'limiting'. Suppose you only have 512 MB of memory (in addition to virtual memory), but the game you're running is using up to 1 GBs of memory (or more). Even with virtual memory, there's only place for less than half of that in RAM. You'd have to put the rest of it in virtual memory. If the game needs to access all of them at once, the operating system must swap between the RAM and the page file. In this situation, the processor will be able to quickly process the data in memory, but it may have to wait until the rest of the data (in virtual memory) is swapped from the hard disk - the hard disk is much slower than RAM. That's when you'll notice a sharp drop in frame rates - a 'stutter'. Frame rates will go back up once the hard disk finished reading (or writing) and all the data processed. With larger amounts of data, the hard disk will have to spend more time accessing data, so the 'stutter' can take more time. The worst scenario in this case will be if the game needs to access all this data all the time, then the operating system must continually swap data between RAM and virtual memory.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
I set the page file to a set equal min and max size.
Tturned on trilinear filtering.
Turned Anti-Aliasing Transparency to Multisampling
Turned on negative LOD bias to on
Anistropic filtering to on
Triple buffering to on
Now I'm getting my old FPS.
For kicks I set AA to 4x and Nvidia override to 16x
Still getting good frames on Iron Ridge on local server (40-70), previously getting about 1 FPS
Not sure what fixed it or if it will be the same online (should be) but I think one of these things was the solution.Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
In the server browser you should be able to see the next few maps on a server when clicking on "Server Info", if the keyword has been written there.
I've other servers have this but not TG. Is there a problem on my end or have you decided to not use it?

Alright, almost there. Except...when I click on the PR.EXE Icon, I get the Windows has encountered a problem issue. I followed all the steps and I am using Vista. Any ideas...?

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
So, I can read now. I ran as administrator and it started... Now, I retrieved my account and a dialog box came up and said: Use the PR.EXE to start not the BF2.EXE. I started it with the Pr.EXE as adminstrator, trivial...

Re: PR Technical Problems Thread
And now the end of my saga... I had two different PR.EXE Icons on a fresh computer? Anyways, use the one thats in the folder and RUN as adminstrator. (VISTA) Maybe another FRED like me will read this. Cheers.
