Usually PR drops a shortcut/batchfile onto your desktop. Use that, or the one in the start menu, that says Project Reality 0909

You're not the only one suffering lag/performance problems right now.

Maybe you should lower your settings, but there's a whole thread dedicated to this right now.

Have you checked to see if your CPU is getting maxed out? That can cause lag when loading new textures/moving quickly about the map.
Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Hey Guys, I found that using GAMEBOOSTER is an awesome way to resolve most of the lagging issues that I had. Thanks to those of you who suggested it to me. I am running this on a laptop using Vista OS.

@ Browna3 : I need some more info on the error. If it is from punkbuster you can easily download the manual update.exe from the site and manually update Punkbuster. If it is not I need more information on how, where and when it happens to be able to help you!

    CD-Key Issue

I've been struggling with this problem for awhile now and figured someone might have had the same issues and could help me out.

I had been playing pr for years with the bf2 that i had originally bought back when it came out. In December my hard drive gave out and i wasn't able to get it replaced and reformatted for a few weeks. When i finally did the first thing i did was go to install bf2. But when i opened the case the manual was gone. So i asked some of my friends who i knew used to play if i could use their copy or cd key, but none were able to locate it. Getting desperate i started just searching around online and found a list of bf2 keys. I tried one and it allowed me to install so i was all excited, but when i tried to play online i got an invalid cd key error. So i decided to hell with, ill just buy another copy, its worth it. So i uninstalled bf2 and reinstalled with the new copy which i bought off amazon. but im still getting the invalid cd-key. I figured maybe there was some files that werent removed from the original install that were causing me to get the error, so i followed ea's instructions on a manual install, then reinstalled again with the new copy and im still getting the cd key error.

Its a brand new game so im not sure whats going on. I dont know if its more likely that there is still some lingering files from the original install, or if my new cd-key that i just bought is invalid. I'm prepared to reformat my computer again if i have to but id rather leave that as a last option.

Any help or experience anyone could relay would help me out alot.

    thanks

As many mistakenly think, this error is mostly not caused by illegal copy of the game. If you are so unlucky to end up with this error your Windows registry key containing your game CD-key is damaged.

The usual recommended fix for this problem is complete reinstall of the game. Even though it will fix the problem it's not necessary to go that far. All you have to do is edit a single value in your registry.

    • Instructions:
      1. Press Windows key + R (or alternatively go to Start > Run)
      2. Write the following into the opened window: regedit and hit ENTER
      3. Create a registry backup in case something goes wrong (see Restore registry section for instructions on how to restore):
File > Export... > select All in Export Range (see below for image) > name it, select a location and Save
      4. Browse through the keys (key is the "folder" you can see in tree to the left of the window) to:
        * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc (you can always see where you are located on the bottom of the registry editor window)
      5. If you have followed the path specified above you should be able to see a registry value called (Default) in the right part of the window
      6. Double-click on the value to open its editor
      7. Delete everything after x9392 (first 5 digits)
      8. Now enter your CD-key (behind the x9392) without dashes or spaces
If your CD-key would be ABCD-0123-EFGH-4567-IJKL you would write it as ABCD0123EFGH4567IJKL
Then the complete line would look like: x9392ABCD0123EFGH4567IJKL
      9. Once you're done entering the code simply click on OK, close the registry editor window and you should be all set to play the game again

        * The path for 64bit versions of Windows (Vista x64 and XP x64 editions) is different:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc
The rest of the guide is not affected.

    • Subsection: Restore registry
aka something went wrong and now my Windows is messed up...

      First of all, don't panic.
If you were following the instructions closely and you still have the registry backup then the fix can't be easier:
      1. Locate the registry backup file (*.reg)
      2. Double-click on the file
      3. Confirm registry import and all overwrite prompts
      4. You registry will be restored to their previous state (before changing the registry value, so you have to retry to make the game work)

    • Disclaimer:
I, nor anybody else, hold any responsibility for any possible hardware or software damage (how unlikely that might be) caused by following these instructions.

    Re: CD-Key Issue

Don't download keys from the internet in the first place.

Uninstall, delete all BF2 folders including the one in My Documents after saving your profiles elsewhere
    Delete your BF2 key in the registry @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\ergc
Install from scratch and update, paste profiles in if you want
    ???
    Profit!!

Although I was ninja'd by Star I do not think his fix works with a completely patched install as a patch reportedly encrypts the key instead of having it clearly visible.

    Thanks for the replys.
Ive tried the regedit thing like 50 times already with no luck. Ive completely removed bf2 using eas intructions and reinstalled and still get the same error. ive talked to ea on chat and gave them my key and they said they activated or something so it should work. but of course it still doesnt work.
