Yes I understand your frustration, but I have been able to get guy's going after the CTD, when was the last time you updated your Direct x?

It's not always a good thing to direct blame, but try to fix the issue. There are a number of reasons why you could be CTD not only software, but hardware issues.

Not every fix is going to work the same way for users, it seems it could have something to do with a windows update, so ruling out certain possibiltys is the way forward for now, let's just keep trying.

The reason this process pains me so is because nothing has changed on my machine. I do not let anything (and I mean anything) update without my consent. I have been burned too many times in the past by items that update themselves.

Now that being said, I have attempted all the possible fixes that people have been gracious enough to put forward. I tried using pbsetup (update). I have installed the latest directx. I have completely reinstalled BF2, patches, POE, PR, etc.

I also understand that most of the PR CTDs have been about the increased texture size (memory usage). If this was limited to PR that would be fine, but since it is affecting all the BF series it is quizzical.

At least I have the source games (CSS, L4D) to play in the meantime.

I do thank you for your help uk. Please don't misinterpret my skepticism about graphics drivers as an insult. I have diligently tried to take steps to validate whether they are the culprit. I have monitored by GPU/CPU/board temps. I have mem tested my RAM. I have tried multiple graphics settings from low to high with and without AA.

The only step I have not tried yet is the proposed uninstall/reinstall of all PB services (using PBsvc) from the PR website (linked earlier).

Seems you have tryed all the fix's in my arsenal.....I am not offened by anything you have said fella, it's all a learning curve.

I look forward to your results, obtw I don't have a problem at all, it's others that I am trying to get going.

download this, replace your old BF2.exe

and you should be fine (make a backup just in case anything goes wrong).

When you wiped all instances of BFx from your system, did you also clear out the registry before trying to reinstall any of it? I'd probably remove PB, including folders and left over keys and then try again. Otherwise it might be time to break out that XP or Vista DVD

tried. didn't fix my particular problem. Did substantially lessen the lag at the beginning of a PR round, though.

Tried to find all the entries. Things like reg entries is why I'm going to try the PBsvc fix. Supposedly PBsvc removes all the reg entries as well as the services themselves. It will be the first thing I try when I get home.

if it makes you feel any better im having the exact same issues..i have tried everything you have mentioned doing in this whole thread as well, and nothing has helped so far. It happens to me in vanilla, poe2 and PR.

all my drivers are up to date including dx9c and .net...

the game had been running perfictly fine for months and i too keep my system very clean and don't allow any auto-updates...

my system is beyond good enough to run the game by along shot.. and i even tested my ram for errors to make sure it wasn't a memory leak.

Running windows XP pro 64bit here. wondering if thats part of the reason.. read that the pb reinstall thing helped people with vista but not with xp64.

which os are you using draeh?

my sys specs are:
Antec Truepower 1000W Quattro
Asus Maximus Extreme (X38 chipset)
core 2 quad 9550 @ stock ( 2.83 Ghz)
Sapphire 4870X2 @ stock
OCZ 4 GB DDR3 in Dual channle
xp64bit sp2
(built it early fall last year.)

It seemed to work last night but I just crashed after a minute tonight. So far:

Updated video drivers.
Updated Punkbuster manually including deleting old folder.
Updated DirectX

Have:
Nvidia 7600 GT
WinXP64
3G RAM

Have not tried: placing the BF2 disk back in drive instead of using miniDVD. - Ok tried and that did not work either. Stumped!

This person contends that he fixed the issue by using PBsvc to completely uninstall the PB services (not just updating them). Using his plan, you will be completely removing Punkbuster (both A & B) from your system and installing them fresh.

I am at work now, but I will try this when I get home.

The person that proposed this fix is now having the same issue again. So, this is not the fix. He has tried to repeat his success with no joy.

I've opened a ticket at evenbalance as suggested by [R-DEV]CodeRedFox. If enough people do that someone will eventually have to respond... i hope.

I'm sold that this is a PB issue. I can play on non-PB servers.

Now I have to go take a shower after having been on a non-PB server.
