BF2 Doesn't open at all

When i open bf2 i get a black screen like its loading but i see no logo and bf2 just closes back up. Suggestions? I have the latest video card drivers as well as audio.

AMD Athlon x2 3.0ghz
ATI Radeon 4850, 512mb, 256 bit interface.
2gb corsair 1300mhz core clock.
Built in audio.
10mbit internet.
About 120gb free hd space.
Windows XP sp3 home edition.
I do have the 1.41 patch as well.

Need any other specs please let me know. I did just install BF2 so technically its never worked for me. Help if you ca.

I ran into the same problem after a reformat and realized I needed to update Microsofts Direct X and it was fixed.

Latest patch to 1.41??

I updated directx to the latest, still just a black screen that blinks a few times and then shuts down BF2... and yes, 1.41 patch.

yes, Download Direct X9 or 10 and it should help your videoing, Don't worry, it has nothing to do with whats wrong with your spec's your specs are fine, just you need the software----- direct X
