Windows 7 BF2 PB
Does anyone know if Battlefield 2 works with Windows 7? Have the PunkBuster issues been resolved?

Hey troublesome4u,
Here is another thread with a resolve to PB issues on 7. Much like Vista, it appears everything must be run as admin.

Re: Windows 7 BF2 PB
I got it to work thanks to Zippy.
Right click on the BF2.exe and go to properties.
Click on the compatibility tab.
Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Select Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
Also I checked the "Run this program as an administrator" box at the bottom.
Good luck and please post your results.

Glad to help - especially after the countless times you've aided me!!!
Here's the BF2.exe Properties box mentioned:

You may want to try this on all your older games that ran on XP. BTW, works in Vista too. I did this method on Vista several months ago before I received Win 7. But I have to say, Win 7 is MUCH better

Re: Windows 7 BF2 PB
I just upgraded from Windows7100 RC (64 bit) to Windows 7 Ultimate RTM and now I can't get Punkbuster to cooperate.
I tried running as admin and xp compatibility with no luck. Any or more ideas?

Re: Windows 7 BF2 PB
I had to manually dl the punkbuster setup file, then ran that as admin and compatibility mode. You can get the file here...

Re: Windows 7 BF2 PB
Initially I conclude that BF2 was not compatible with Windows 7. That's because I tried every way imaginable of loading the game and its patches (per the recommendations I found in the various chat rooms—including this one), and the game kept crashing. Then I switched monitors, from my new widescreen LG W2486L to my old non-widescreen HP f1903. That's all it took! Now I am spending every free minute playing this game.
When I get tired of BF2, I will go back and reload my other Windows XP games (which also crashed on my Windows 7 PC) and see if they work too.

Re: Windows 7 BF2 PB
Hi Bandoron,
Did you try the steps I posted here?
It is possible to run BF2 on Win 7 once you get the settings right and punkbuster updated. Many of the TG members here still play BF2 from time to time, and for the most part we're using Win 7, and a few Vista users here and there.
That fact that it works on your 19" screen, but not your 24" (HD) screen sounds like a graphics setting issue. If it didn't work at all then a problem with Win 7 may be considered, but that's not the case. The 1280x1024 resolution of your 19" HP monitor was more standard during BF2's release and heyday, and as higher resolution screens later came out there were similar types of problems that arose. I had a few problems with a 24" 1920x1200 monitor I had a few years ago, yet with some tips and adjustments it was able to play BF2 fine.
There are a few fixes we could try. It may be the game video settings need to be manually adjusted to the native 1920x1080 resolution of your monitor - which is the same resolution as my 25". In the video settings, scroll down and see if it lists 1920x1080. It should, as it shows up in my BF2 menu, but it may also require you to have the 24" connected.
In order to understand your system more, could you post your graphics card and the drivers you are using? PC specs may be helpful as well. Cable type connected from your PC to the 19" and 24" (VGA, DVI, or HDMI)?
We'll try and help you get BF2 playable on that nice new monitor of yours. Worse comes to worse, you at least have a back up in the 19" to keep on playing...

Re: Windows 7 BF2 PB
I had the same issue with monitors. I had to use my old 19" monitor for the longest time instead of my Samsung 2053BW. I upgraded my computer from vista 32 Ultimate to Windows 7 64 and the issue disappeared. I did nothing special when I loaded the the game. All I could think of was that one of the patches did not install correctly. I'm thinking of the latest BF2 patch that allows the use of wide screen monitors. Before that patch they were not allowed.
