Re: is your rig good enough?
High+high+insane = ~60 fps on 1024x768 w/ everything on high. Is that what I should be getting?
Anyway, it's good enough for me.

Woo! thanks for letting me know just how badly my PC won't run this game
Good to know though, as I was looking for these statistics earlier and couldn't find them.

The best "Free" way to see if your machine can even run BF2 is to download the demo and try it out.

OS: Windows XP w/ SP2
Connection: COX HSI Broadband
CPU: Intel P4 3.0
Memory: 2GB PC3200
Video: 6600 GT
I run in 1024x768 with "medium" settings and no AA. I tried running in higher settings but I found that in various points in the map I would start getting choppy and have a difficult time controlling my player. I prefer to have my visibility set to 100 and have lower overall settings than drop it to 80 and push my settings up to high.
I have not yet tried any of the tweaks posted for improving performance. Has anyone here tried them and have any results to report?

I have not tried this, though.

Re: is your rig good enough?
Demo ran fine for the first week on my system, but suddenly in the past 2 days it's been giving me a headache. It now randomly blackscreens/temporarily freezes/shuts down my video card if I don't switch my desktop to 800x600 and then play at the same resolution. Before I just had my desktop at 1024x768, and played at the same. All medium settings, since those were default and I saw no reason to go higher.

Re: is your rig good enough?
I will point out that a friend of mine has a top of the line PC that can't run at insane settings because of the demo itself and minor issues that will (hopefully) be fixed in the retail release.

Re: is your rig good enough?
I am highly suspicious of the OS requirement as apparently the demo works perfectly fine on my Win2K Pro with SP4. It did however, tell me right after the installation that the build has only been tested on WinXP. It seems that DICE thinks not been tested is equal to not working. I will seriously rage if I find out for some strange reasons the retail doesn't let you install the game on Win2K.
