Re: Battlefield 2 Hangs / crash to desktop
I too have had issues of CTD. I have a Shuttle w/ onboard sound. Maybe something to this.....
Also, I found not running TS and just using in game comms REALLY smooths things up!
In the pursuit of... something.

Re: Battlefield 2 Hangs / crash to desktop
_Which_ onboard sound to you CTD sufferers have?
I've got a Chaintech VNF 250(or is it 350?) board with CMedia Sound onboard, and it works fine. Heck, I popped in my old SBLive the other day so I could plug in my old gameport Joystick and it is still working fine.
Just curious, check your sound chipset(?) to see if that's common among crashers.

Re: Battlefield 2 Hangs / crash to desktop
You may want to hold off on buying the Audigy 2. The new technology of Audigy X-Fi is coming out shortly, which BF2 does support. Even if you don't want the newest, it should surely drop the price of the Audigy 2s.

Re: Battlefield 2 Hangs / crash to desktop
The hang / crash happens for many different reasons. Here is one persons experience and how he solved it.
When i first bought the game and played on ranked server a couple of seconds later the game crashed sometimes a couple of minutes,
i have an Ati Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition and my brother has a
Ati 9800PRO and both of our game had random crashes and both of us had different drivers so it couldnt be a driver issue nore a Graphic card issue,
2 whole days trying to fix this problem
i read on some forum something about Hyper Threading for pentium 4's
So i disabled it in my bios and finaly the game WORKED not 1 crash since
even on my brothers computer worked so this obviously was the problem
and the game runs as smooth as,
Hope this works for all you pissed off people out there like i was

It's a new revelation in sound processing unit, as they say. They claim it will help alleviate the CPU from dealing with sound processing. It's a new leap in sound technology, too, as they claim, and will sound more realistic. Check out soundblaster. They have a count down of 3 days when more information will be released.

Re: Battlefield 2 Hangs / crash to desktop
I had the same problem with battlefield 1942 crashing while loading or starting a game. Run dxdiag and go to the "more help" tab. Click on the direct draw override button. Change the refresh rate to 60 hz. I thought one of the patches (v1.1) was supose to fix it but I had a new install and just ran the last patch. I was baffled running all kinds of diagnostic programs but came up empty. This was the only game that was crashing. I think it has something to do with a conflicting directx 8 dll file. Anyway I hope this helps somebody.

Re: Battlefield 2 Hangs / crash to desktop
Randy, sounds like you have the x1650 series. Get the drivers from ati.com. You'll need the full catalyst control center package (approx 20-30mb). Also, with PR, running it on high isnt really recommended for anyone running less than a 512 mb card and 3gb ram. Overheating your vid card will cause you to CTD and/or bluescreen. It can also straight up fry your card. Besides, you dont really lose much playing it on low. Believe me.

Re: Battlefield 2 Hangs / crash to desktop
is there a live person to chat with about problems..... i would love to play b2, but after going through making sure I have enough memory and doing everything to install the game, it does exactly what this person is saying -- comes on for a second or 2 and goes straight back to my desktop....... why won't the game start?????
