I have done the manual patching like in this thread:

Because I get the "patcing failed" popup!
Bt when I start BF2, it tries to start the game up with the first battlefield splash screen on the dekstop, then it goes into black mode (like it usual does)
But just before the EA games splash screen it goes right bak to the desktop?!?!
So I cant game BF2
Does enyone knows the solution?

I`ve got the same problem. I`ve read somwhere that if you got the DVD version of BF2 it can be a problem, and we have to wait for the 1.031 version. I have tried to reinstall several times, but in the end I was so pizzed that I gave up, and got back to 1.02. ..pretty sad, I had waited for this one
