Why I haven't been on...
Well, the reason I haven't been on is because of this error (SS provided). I recieved this after getting some spyware that can only be taken out by reformatting (surfsidekick). I am wondering if this error is caused by the spyware and I'll have to reformat before playing again, or, for some strange reason, I can just do a few things and start playing again.
EDIT: I've been trying other servers (including #2) and it won't even allow me to Join Game before BF2 crashes. Seems like Server #1 is the only nice server. Oh well 1:43 minutes till new OS and maybe..just MAYBE I can reformat.

Dev, not sure what resources you've gone through to come with a reformat but there may be an easier way. If you're looking for good technical help on removing malware check out the dslreports security forums http://www.dslreports.com/forum/security

Re: Why I haven't been on...
Thanks Fault and Drunken.
Just tried your suggestion Drunken. I didn't find any files so I just "Restored Policy" like it asked and now it won't even DL the maps. I just goes straight to a desktop crash. Hmmm..maybe there's an answer in there about how to fix that...

Re: Why I haven't been on...
So I've tried everything Drunken said and the spyware on my computer seems to be gone, but the crash to desktop is still there. Bah humbug. Hopefully I'll be fully operational by tommorrow if I (or we) can figure out this crash to desktop problem. Where do I submit my nomination for Most Helpful Techie ribbon?

Re: Why I haven't been on...
When is your crash to desktop? After loading? login? You may try the +fullscreen 0 option on the shortcut. That shows an error dialog.

Re: Why I haven't been on...
I still have one more popup coming from this site:
http://%1%20http://www.ad-w-a-r-e.com/cgi-bin/PopupV3?ID={B3802F52-FCB7-B590-BBC8-7A3262A173B9}&type=normal&mSkip=1&rnd=29717
So I didn't get them all. It could still be because of this adware that I'm not able to get in.
What is this +fullscreen 0 option? Where can I find this?

Re: Why I haven't been on...
hmm deveran...im thinking...ctrl alt del and maximize the window on the processes. Then hit the print screen button and then open paint>edit>paste. Save the file and let me take a look at it to see whats still starting up at startup. Do this right after you startup your computer. As far as battlefield goes...its probably best to reinstall it. (before you do this save a copy of the bf2 folder in my documents and after you install the 1.03 patch paste this back and overwrite the files so all ur settings do get deleted)

Re: Why I haven't been on...
http://sysinternals.com has a nice set of tools to examine what goes on on your machine. process explorer, filemon and registry monitor are my favorites. These allow you to see which process owns which files/networks-addresses, registry entries, etc.
The +fullscreen 0 option is attached to the battlefield icon on your desktop. It is a command line argument to the bf2.exe program. Right click on the icon/properties/general. You should see it there.Gigabyte P35-DS3R, 2GB, 8800GTS 640MB, Core2Duo E8400

Re: Why I haven't been on...
I'm 99.9% sure it's because of this ad-w-a-r-e.com adware. BF2 is not letting me connect with my firewall on (agnitum outpost) so I cancel it. Everytime I double click a server it kicks me out completely. With my firewall on it doesn't kick me out but it doesn't let me get on. Says I have a server error of some sort.
I've tried everythnig to get rid of this adware, and that's why I've been wanting to reformat.

Dev, if you're still having trouble with malware here's a step by step method to get rid of it with links to free scans including anti virus, adware removers, spyware removers, trojans, etc.
Very helpful. Last resort is to post a hijackthis log.

Re: Why I haven't been on...
You will have to make sure your machine is 100 % clean. DO NOT REFORMATE. Try to locate a memory process and it's name.
Do some more research online to find exactly what you are dealing with. Then try to find how other people got rid of it.|TG|Bodark
