Patching problem
I have had this problem everytime i tried to patch my BF2 with any of the 3 patches:
Once its patched , and I run the game, it returns to the dekstop and I get the error :
My com specs are:
Intel Pentium 4 1.4Ghz
GeForce 5500FX
512MB RAM
I thought it could have been the problem with my graphix card, but i know a friend who has the same graphix card, and it just works fine for him when it is patched

Try joining a different server and see if that works. You may want to just uninstall and reinstall to start out clean.
