Re: Is my ball a problem?
And then you have freaks like me that play with a trackball, it is optical but it still has a ball in it. I tried a G5 or G7 just a few months ago and found I could not use a mouse anymore. I really wish they would put out a really high end trackball

Re: Is my ball a problem?
Silver you are not alone. I have been using the same MS ball mouse for the past 9 years. I clean it once every 2 months or so but I love the feel and weight of it. If I could get an optical mouse that had the same shape and weight distribution I would probably spring for one but in the meantime I'll stick with it

Re: Is my ball a problem?
isnt that sad that you can tell when you are using a mouse that isnt yours, it truely is. I have 4 different mice at work that i use for different computers, i was half temped to just get a USB wireless one to move around from PC to PC.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Is my ball a problem?
Optical or Ball mouse either way you still have to have a good mouse surface. Although an optical mouse doesn't have the addition of the ball to slide on the surface, it still has to slide.
With an optical mouse there's the added vaiable of differentiation in the mouse surface. The optics read the changes in the appearance of the surface. So each mouse is doing two things with the surface. One, sliding on it via the mouse it self, often called feet, and two determining where the cursor is on your screen. Either by the mechanical stystem of rollers in a ball mouse or by the optics in an optical mouse.
What's the point?
Surfaces. When you pick either a ball or optical mouse you need to have a good surface to play on. If you use a ball mouse debris is a concerned. With both mice there's the surfaces reaction with the mouse itself. Just because there's no ball doesn't mean your not sliding it on a surface that could be "tugging" on it, making aiming seem more difficult.
Additionally since an optical mouse "reads" the surface it has to have variation in it. The optics determined whether the mouse has moved because of the difference in the previous scan of the surface. Shiny surfaces or surfaces with little to no variation in color or texture are not good for precise work with an optical mouse.
For years I went nuts trying to find the right combination. The best mouse pad I found was from RatPadz. Eventually I wore dead spots in it, and had to replace it with another. After my second RatPadz began to show signs of wearing I used MouseSkates. I forget the name of the company I got them from, but HyperGlide seems to be the comming up in my searches for them as I write this post.
A solid surface mouse pad, and/or MouseSkates is the best solution to any "dragging" or "studdering" problem you might have with optical or ball mice.
As was said you do have to clean ball mice on a regular basis. You'll find a small strip of debris will build up on the surface of the rollers.
I eventually got frustrated with MouseSkates and solid surface mouse pads and switched to a MircoSoft forefinger track ball. You heard me !!! A track ball. The change over was a momumental pain in the arse, but I think it was worth it. The only draw back is I have to scrub my hands of any oils before gaming. The ball rides on steel studs and after hours of gaming the ball itself can become "gummy" and cause dragging.
I switched over just in time for BF 42' and found it awesome for tank turrets and anything on a 360 degree swivel.
I can't post links till I get 15 posts so just do a search for:
RatPadz
and
HyperGlide

Re: Is my ball a problem?
They use ball mice in school....sucks bad when you're used to optical mice like me.
I also vote to go optical (wired), its just a lot more precise.

Re: Is my ball a problem?
Greetings crew. i am concerned about the boosterpack/s. The only way i can play thte EU boosterpack is if i go to the EA downloader and go from there. i cannot practice the Tac Mod with it this way. i am not worried about that. My question is, how will we go about this on the server? Also when does armed fury come out? Finally, when will we be playing these boosterpacks?
Thanks.

Re: Is my ball a problem?
Correct, you can only get the booster packs from EA downloader. There is talk that after the armoured fury comes out, you will be able to buy that and euro forces together on CD, but that is not confirmed by EA.

Tac mod uses Total BF2 map packs 2&3 (I think) these are free to download (400Mb a piece approx). Tac mod itself is free and 1 mb. Playing tac mod is not affected by whether or not you have EA boooster packs. Further (and official) info is available on the tac mod forum (look under general forums of TG) I highly recommend you try tac mod

If you go to tacticalgamer homepage there is an annoucement that TG supports the booster packs and that they will be in rotation on ser 1, so an incentive to purchase them. I havent seen euro forces packs in routine rotation yet, but I'm sure thats soon to happen.

Greetings crew! I'm concerned about everyone's opinions about their favorite pastries. Do you all like the portable kind [i.e. cookies, brownies, pastry bars] or the sort that you leave sitting out and take a big cut out of [i.e. pies, cakes, tarts]? I was wondering if you guys buy them at the store or make them yourselves, as well.

Good decision - I have the MX518 and it is pretty nice. You get additional buttons too, that you can bind to actions in BF2.
