Installed new POE patch - game crashes
Installed the new POE patch - successfully (?) but the game crashes when the "Join Game" icon appears.

What did you find out? I have this problem too. I've installed both 1.7 and 1.8, but I CTD when I try to join the server.

Try 1.8 full and uninstall all the old stuff before installing.
