Re: Young tactical gamers
You'd kick people for swearing over VoIP? Has that ever happened?
vBF2 is rated T in the US, this game on open marked would get a much higher rating. Included in that ratingsystem are not only grades of violence, but also offensive language. I know it's a tired old discussion, but still...?
By all means, it's your server, this just surprised me.
And the F is an obscenity i believe, not profanity. If i was kicked for saying "hell" i don't know where i'd turn.
I don't get this original post; He should watch his language because he's playing with kids? Or what Oldirty said? Or did you mean "...kids today," to put it clichè-ic? Except for that side note, i can't make this post out.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Alot of people get kicked from TG servers because of swearing over VOIP, ive done it many times. We want an environment of maturity, just because the game is rated T does not mean the servers need to be out of control places to play. And we do have some younger players on the servers, they dont need to hear that kind of crap.
We try to keep our servers as friendly to all as possible, and if you can not keep your language under control and follow the Server rules then we dont want you on the server.that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Cussing [within boundries of course] and younger players does not bother me much. We've all been young(er) at one point in life. I think that 'confrontations' can be based on that younger players tend, on an average, to use the VOIP a little bit to much which could lead to that none really listens all to much to that younger player after a while.
A prime example happend on Kufrah Oilfields the other day when someone was sitting and and repeating the MEC-voices when playing with the rose. All this with a Mickey Mouse-voice...Say no more. After a while did this guy start to complain that the squad did not listen to him when he called out sightings etc.
Perhaps it is cruel, but part of the PR-reality, that younger players should think a little bit of what they say, how much they say it, and how they say it because tollerance can be a bit low on the server at times have I noticed.443.Urban Infantry Bat. / Bat. Anti-tank Platoon

Re: Young tactical gamers
Let me just give you a general poiter on the SL role. While we are to follow the SL orders to the letter on TG, I think everyone still considers it a game. Your intervention -if this was a litteral quote- can hardly be classified as friendly or even neutral in tone.
Generally if a person is angry, they will react negatively to any comment on their behaviour that is not phrased carfully and diplomatically.
It is better to kick a person immediatly (and perhaps briefly stating why), or to calmly ask them to change their behaviour.
Personally, I would have already given him a remark when he started ordering kits in your squad
.
PS: If the people that rated BF2 ever hear the voip on it, they wouldn't have given it a rating at all. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: Young tactical gamers
I personally wouldn't kick someone for swearing, unless it was the dreaded 'c-word'. I don't like swearing, and that generally lowers my opinion of the person (it's just a game, no need to get angry over it). I would kick someone for excessive swearing or swearing at a person in the squad, but if they get killed and say 'that's BS', that doesn't bother me too much.
Back on topic: Just because you're young doesn't mean you can't be trusted to be mature. If you want to have arcadey fun go play vanilla, if you want realism and tactical fun play PR.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Again, I would ask everyone to read the rules - you can find the link in my signature.
No one is suggesting that we are completely draconian about swearing - I've done it and so have a lot of other really solid citizens on this server. However, the minute someone is offended by what they hear, they have the right to complain and the admins have the right to enforce policy.
Just because one player doesn't find it offensive doesn't mean that the other player(s) won't. We, as admins, have to react to that - it is in the rules - "No swearing". This isn't a violation of someone's First Amendment rights to free speech - this server is private property and free speech doesn't apply here. It's the same as walking into a restaurant and letting go with every obscenity you can think of. If you're lucky, the manager will just escort you to the door, but they have every right to call the police and have you removed and arrested. Sorry, the First Amendment doesn't cover you there, it's private property. If you don't believe me, try it some time. It's the same thing here.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Sounds like the OP handled this well. It is not easy for younger players to police other younger players, good job of that, it shows your maturity level is high.
If you must swear then just don't push the transmit button, you can swear all you want without a transmit. No need to drop bombs on the others in your squad. It makes you seem much more mature when you are able to use non cuss words to express your emotion.
I'm guilty of the occasional crap or damn, but I try to even not transmit those.Death Before Dishonor

Re: Young tactical gamers
this should be sigged, not to blow up your spot or anything pawn....but.....i can sense a bit of bill clinton in you, i found it funny, and chuckled out loud that you didn't answer about the comment how you have to be a supporting member but immediately jumped to another question and said "someone else can start one."
Pawn I am not trying to make fun of you or, belittle you or anything like that, but.....why not support TG iin a way that can benefit not only you but maybe tens, maybe 20's heck...maybe even more young gamers like yourself who would wish to start a young TG gamers club/unit.
Ask not what TG can do for you, but what you can do for TG.

Re: Young tactical gamers
I've cursed over voip before, it happens, but when someone is cursing just to curse, and or not being polite when asked to stop, then....they deserve it.....
I've apologized several times to nardini, disposable and dirtboy etc, when i've let out an expletive, most of the time its because i get scared when an enemy jumps out of nowhere, it happens, however when its intentional and unwarranted then its inexcusable.
Just bc BF2 is rated T doesn't mean you have the right to Curse.....Is there a constitution of world gamers that i don't know about that gives someone the right to do this while in the presence of others?
Pawn i do give you kudos on acting maturely with this person, obviously he wasn't mature enough to curse in the beginning....i stand by you for kicking him after you asked him not to.
