Re: Young tactical gamers
These days swearing doesn't seem like an issue to society anymore, I've seen kids in preschool using swears in their "sentences" and even a couple 3 year olds saying it. I have also heard kids in elementary school already talking about sexually orientated things which I find just insane.Society has come to either:
A) Acceptance that it's just another word that you can ignore or pay attention to or
B) Society is crumbling upon itself
I think both of those will answer the issue of swearing pretty easily among young people.
As for in the server, it's best to respect others, you never know when someone is easily offended or haven't heard a swear before (Although you'll hear me say hell extremely often but in my opinion it's not a swear or a bad word even, I can't understand why it would be).
P.S. I have also heard kids in elementary school already talking about sexually orientated things which I find just insane and a clear case of answer B
A lot of swearing in my mind is just another way humans have found to express themselves which I find perfectly normal, others don't agree with me though.

Re: Young tactical gamers
My opinion on this matter would be....It would be solely up to the SL and the other members of the squad. If the SL doesn't mind it or uses foul language themselve then the person that doesn't might need to leave and find a squad that they feel more comfortable with. If the SL doesn't want foul language warn the person using it and if they don't stop then kick them and lock squad if need be.
There are actually quite a few times(every night I play) I had been in squads and people use foul or vulgar language, it is my decision to leave the squad and find a better squad or create one of my own. That would be the mature thing to do instead of arguing with somebody over their language use, that would be the immature thing to do which I see so many doing. If SL then kicking them would also be the mature thing to do if I do not care for the language either.
pwn3ge106, if you feel like it was offending you or anybody else in your squad and you were SL then what you did was right.
kittykatnub I also agree with you, so much from the movies that are on every night ordinary television to the music that is played has offensive language in it. Each person does have their own limit of what they consider to be offensive. It is a form of expression but anything, including hearing someone constantly saying words over and over again will annoy anybody(good or bad ones).
What it sounds more like to me was pwn3ge106 was tired of hearing the whining more than the language though.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Regardless of our own personal opinions on swearing, it is quite plainly against TG rules and therefore we should all police ourselves and each other to keep it to a bare minimum. You are playing in someone else's house, and you must abide by their rules.
With that said, we all slip, myself included. When I realized I've said something that would be considered rude, I try to apologize, move on and try to do better. Also keep in mind guys that all the cursing and swearing is just unnecessary comm chatter that is not really needed anyway. For example: "Oh $*&^! I can't believe that! I just got wasted by some ^%$#*@# *&^$%@##! #^@(!" If we followed proper comm procedures, it should be something more like "One enemy spotted, NW, 100 meters. Engaging. I'm down." I'm as guilty as the next guy for long drawn out descriptions of enemy contact and the resulting frustration of being taken down by said enemy, but it does really clutter up comms. As this, "I'm bored and nothing is going on, so I'm going to talk about the movie I saw last week" has got to be curtailed as much as possible. This also may be why a lot of younger players on comms get looked down on. They tend to be rather excitable on comms and babble a bit and it tends to get on the more experienced players' nerves. Again, I'm far from perfect and make these mistakes all the time, but I know I make them and I'm striving to do better.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Elwenil, I too make the occasional foul mouthed remarks that are uncalled for, I think most here do. I could go through a whole list of names of people(TG tag wearers included) that I know for a fact that curse quite frequently but that information is not needed. As I had said though, the immaturity starts showing when people do start making a big deal over it when there are so many other options to handle it.

I am guilty of dropping the occasional F-bomb....I try to curb it...but sometimes it just happens. I do most of my cursing outside of VOIP or TS.

Re: Young tactical gamers
There are many things that are constituted as over the top. Constant swearing, constant idiotic chatter, constant screaming or being a general non-teamwork asshat may get you kicked from a squad, or at least my squad. If I'm the squad leader and a player in my squad doesn't fit with our squad dynamic, no offense but I'm going to kick them. I'm willing to work with young players and inexperienced players. I know what it's like to be in their shoes as I was once there. I know if i had someone who taught me the ropes back when I first started it would had been much easier. But I am not willing to teach someone who is not willing to learn. Being ignorant, rude and an asshat will win you zero points.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Agreed. Good example:
This afternoon on kashan I was in a transport squad. The team was largely disorganized. When I joined (we were on MEC side), we had been pushed all the way back to MEC Outpost. By some miracle of god (and lots of fine armor handiwork at the hands of Skud and his crew), we made a huge push and drove the US back to US Outpost. From there it was the typical north/south bunker fiasco. But I digress..
So my transport squad. We had random people joining. I watched 5 different people crash 12 transport choppers without getting them off the ground. They were trying to fly vanilla-style. Big no-no, obviously. I kept trying to very nicely explain to them that you cant fly like you can in vanilla, the aircraft have to spin up and the controls are a lot more testy. I told them that the manual explains all this. I pointed out and gave links to the Kashan Training Mode pack you can get from the PR forums. I got whining, smacktard comments, and ignorance in return. If I had been squad leader, I woulda booted them. Unfortunately, I was stuck with them. So I simply picked up Floody and we went and shot up some infantry courtesy of the side mounted .50 cal.

Re: Young tactical gamers
That map was pretty terrible. I couldn't understand how our whole team couldn't hold off what seemed like 1-2 squads of infantry. I know that the infantry squad I was in had a really tough go of it from the start, and it seemed like the only support was from Skud's tank. Once we went for the bunkers it was an excellent round though...

Re: Young tactical gamers
I myself am under the age of 18 and find that age is not so important. The maturity of a player is the important thing. I also get a little annoyed when people who have never played the game before whine because they aren't doing it right. I don't mind when someone curses once in a while because it's only natural for a human being to get angry.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Rules are rules.........its a private server......play by their rules, its simple...you don't have to justify why cursing is fine, because it isn't supported...you can give 10000 reasons, and it doesn't matter TG rules, is cursing is unacceptable in chat and in squad chatter, it happens but.......try not to do it, especially if someone asks you not to......If you don't like it, then don't play at TG, or even better don't press squad voip chat, and or don't type it out.

Re: Young tactical gamers
Westy, i just turned 15 a while back and i have a job and already have a bank account. I actually have had it since i was 11. But i have a paintball team that takes up all my money so, i am not a supporting member.
Age wise, its hard to tell on online games other then the voice of the person. My friend who just joined PR doesnt have the disiplin that i have or the patience or even maturity that is required to play. People who are younger cant be catagorized as Vbf2 noobs and immature because of one or two people who mess it all up for the rest of us.
As for swearing. I have let a few go here and there but nothing ridiciously bad. I dont ever recall going much past either of the B words. I personaly dont mind when someone swears cause we all have done it. Whether or not it was out loud or in our heads. Its a part of the human i guess. Sometimes in PR if someone gets frustrated they do let out a son of a B here or there. Personnaly if i get frustrated ill just shut off the game before i do something that i will regret. Although it has happened where i was so angry that i had to get my revenge regardless of the consequences. Just a lil trip to my darkside.

Re: Young tactical gamers
personally and this is just my personal opinion (pawn3ge you are an exception) teenagers under the age of 15 shouldn't really be playing this game....its rated T for teen but the online aspect and multiplay brings it up to a whole new level.......Its great that places like TG exist where maturity counts, but honestly i'd be watching my son like a hawk, and if he starts cursing while playing etc, id pull the plug on the online games, this is going to make me sound old, but when i was growing up we played outside and got dirt on our pants, and an occasional cut knee.....
