Re: PR versus ARMA
@Fuzz
Every round is different, and some nights aren't as good as others.
About the mission we played that night where you were a fire team leader, here are some thoughts.
If I had known you were looking for more leadership, I would have stepped up so you wouldnt' have had to lead. I as actually excited to see you in game because I have always had a great time in your PR squads, as I like to run in a tight ship. So I sat back that round and wanted to see how you would run a squad. Not to nitpick, but to learn from anything you did different.
Also, there are like 10 versions of Domination on the server, and the one that happened we were playing wasn't split up for fireteams for some reason. We played a version last night where there were 3 groups I think, so you could actually use group channel, and it was much better. I think the mission the other night would have been much better with group channel possible.
Also about the other night, we had a couple immature players in our Alpha 2 firesquad, and they are being dealt with as we speak. It actually annoyed the crap out of me listening to them run off on comms.
And the best part is I have the whole thing on fraps. I meant to just record the flight over in the Blackhawk, but forgot to turn it off, so got like 30+ mins of fraps, including all the things the kiddies were doing. I just finished cutting a movie showing their actions and a ban is forth coming I think.
But I have also decided to make the whole thing a movie showing how a mission runs. How much different than PR is in that we didn't fire a shot for about 15 mins. into the mission. And I think you are going to have to change your mind about the level of leadership that was there once you see it again in the movie. There was nonstop direction and planning given.
The movie will have to be cut into 3 parts I think. Also, the site I am using that lets me use Hi-def is actually doing some maintenance, and only has a 500mb a week limit. So I think I will post 2 this week and another like Sun. or Mon. for the final. The 1st is already uploaded, but they started doing maintenance before I could get the download link.

Re: PR versus ARMA
Ok, here is part 1. It just posted.
Again, I think if you are considering getting this game, you need to think long and hard about your style of play, and see if you can run like this, or if PR is more your speed, with it's constant action for the ADD minds. I enjoy both games and both have their pros and cons, but again, ARMA is not for everyone.
Notice the first 5 mins. of the movie is just ridding in a chopper to get to the LZ. And that is after about 5 mins. of planning and looking at what we were going to do.
Then, it is almost 15 mins. in before we even get to fire a shot. I know some PR players get pissed just looking at the pre-game countdown clock for 3 mins.
Also notice that there is 1 or 2 players that just run off at the mouth nonstop. It is so annoying in game when you are trying to listen to the orders and enemy contacts, while at the same time you have someone saying stupid stuff nonstop. You will see between the 3 movies the same kid talks while the commander is giving the plan more than once, and then right before we move in to get set up, he says like "ok, so what's the plan again?"
We are starting to take a more strict approach to dealing with this kind of thing, so that it doesn't ruin the game for other players. ARMA is not a game to get in and goof off. It can get your team killed, and if it happens after an hour of hard work on a mission, you can bet you won't be playing on that server again.
I will post video 2 probably tomorrow some time.
Here is part 1. Remember if it comes up in a little pop up window, if you click through to the actual site you can see it in much better detail, and even download it in better detail.

That being said, I actually played for about 3 hours tonight, and did not even shoot at a bad guy. I spent the whole time training up 2 new players helping them get over the learning curve as best I could. They did awesome, and caught on really quick!Last edited by Bamboo; 08-08-2008 at 01:48 AM.

Re: PR versus ARMA
yeap blackdog1 is an excellent squad/platoon leader, and it shows right there in that video... i was not questioning his leadership at all in my post, actually in my post i praised blackdog1 for what he has done to help shape this community, Im very excited that he got admin status and I think that with his new group the server will be MUCH better off. My post was directed towards others, especially past in-house-squads as I felt their lack of leadership very disappointing, but I didnt want to post names but wanted to keep it positive. I think things will be improving alot especially with blackdog1 coming into his element both on admin staff and in game. Now all he needs is some strong leaders and we could see some really intense battles, maybe even a scrim or 2 against shacktac in the future

glad you took video of all those missions, too bad you didnt take video of the next day (august 3rd) cause we had a very nice group of players on the urban engagements map and I was much more in my element and my squad leader role was much more defined. The video you took was my first time back playing ArmA in 4 months and I really didnt want to lead a fireteam in that mission, but beta did not want to run one either hehe..
As for the problem player in that video#1, that is bobick, dunno why he was goofing around so much, he was in my squad and like I said it was my first time back to ArmA in a while, I wasnt about to go yelling at people (well, I did do that alot the next day but the first day I was taking it easy). Bobick is a member of shacktactical group, I think his attitude was because this wasnt shacktac, he could goof off and get away with it, I dunno you should try to get ahold of him, but yea it was kind of funny but also it did undermine blackdog1's briefing, though I still understood the briefing (all those hours of playing PR and hearing the damn commander talk over the squad members is paying off lol)
Lets see video #2, I love straight footage like this one, soooooooooo much better than the after action video or ones with music playing over top, I think this video showcases ArmA voip just perfectly!
Also, why you use 3rd person camera so much... is ghey :P

Re: PR versus ARMA

Re: PR versus ARMA
The players that goofed off during that mission are about to be taken care of, and that is all I can say for now. And remember fuzz, try not to use personal names in the forum. Wait till you see the behavior continue in part 2. I have the video cut, but I have to have it under 214mb to post, so I have actually rendered it 6 times now, using different codecs and settings. God I love having a quad core CPU. I hope to start uploading it by tomorrow morning.
Also, back to the helping new players part, one of our new to TG guys, nthamma (Lq. Snake in game), who has been really doing well in PR recently, grabbed me on TS and we jumped in and got him trained up. Just as I finished and I was about to run with him in combat finally, another new player joined and asked for help, so I went back to the main and trained him. By that time I had been in the server over 2 hours and I was horse from talking so much and explaining everything. So I ended up not even playing, but we now have 2 new awesome players that I can tell are going to be great squadmates.
And if I hadn't been there TG-X Grunt would have been happy to step up as well. I have decided though to just make a good training video though for people to watch, and then come in and ask questions. Should help most people get the basics out of the way.
The time during training though we had about 30 people in the server, and it is actually 2am right now, and there are still 12 people on.
Lastly, as far as third person, I only use it when shooting video or testing things. That night, like you saw me turning on and off the grass and stuff, I was trying to cause my Nvidia drivers to crash. I and a bunch of other players are having driver problems lately, and I can't seem to find a rhyme or reason for the crash. You'll see later on, and normally for that matter, I always run in 1st person. And for those that don't know, don't get the impression you can really play in 3rd person, like MGS4 or something. I don't think you could shoot and hit crap in 3rd if you wanted to.

Re: PR versus ARMA
oK, here is part 2. It isn't nearly as good of quality, because as I said I had to fit it under a certain ammount of mb. But Sun. or Mon. I will post part 3, and I can post it back to very good quality. Part 3 is all the actual fighting.

Re: PR versus ARMA
The Vimeo site had some tech problems so it took longer than expected to get this 3rd part hosted, but here it is. I wish it was just a tiny bit clearer so you could see what we are shooting at, but it looks like you will have to download the movie to see the bad guys. Size is about 225mb or so.
Enjoy...............

Re: PR versus ARMA
I don't know why you bother posting information about VBS2
Considering it costs 1500 dollars just for the basic pack and basically shows that for 1450 dollars more (saying it cost 50 bucks to buy the original release version of ARMA), you could have gotten what people thought ARMA should have been.
Also I don't know if you have ever noticed but some of the civilian cars in Arma have license plates with Arabic writing on them (minor coincidence?)
Nevertheless thank god for ARMA's modding community who are implementing things such as the drag/revive system seen in VBS2, and the real time 3d editor, and destructable buildings with real interiors, and better looking units, and an overall better AI.
Yeah if it isn't obvious from above I have a love/hate relationship with this game.
