Re: PR versus ARMA
I just hope for all their graphics upgrades, they fix the problems of the original arma, and that is make it have a compelling and stable multiplayer component so we can actually play on full 60 player servers, cause as of right now a 60 player public arma server does not exist. If they can get the gameplay to the point where it requires a bit of teamwork like original BF2, and they can convince enough players to play on a regular basis, then I think it will be ripe for modding.
Also I hope the game ships with working VOIP and it doesnt take 1 year to fix

Re: PR versus ARMA
Main one for me is optimisation with decent systems, hell, ArmA plays better on single core processors than multi-core. If they fix that, and the frustrating collision system, im a happy bunny.

Re: PR versus ARMA
ACE came out on christmas eve, and I am not joking, its my favourite christmas present this year, it has been so sought after. For those of you with the time and the disposition, here is the ACE wiki, it is so incredibly detailed!

Personal favourite so far is the HuntIR, and the Bradley TOW, so much fun!

Re: PR versus ARMA
Its obviously better then bf2 in lots of ways but maybe not the most important ones, whats the cheapest I can get arma for then

This typically is a 60° cone extending from the rear of the AT weapon for 30-60 meters behind the weapon. The backblast of most AT weapons will seriously injure or kill people within the backblast area.

Got Arma on the 24th. Have to admit, the community is bad, but when the TG server gets going, its a lot of fun

Re: PR versus ARMA
Well I think ArmA has gotten to be a prety cheap price now, so at this point its worth getting just for the engine alone, cause its very cool engine to play around in. If your talking about the community aspect online, and thats the sole reason you are thinking about it, then its still a mixed bag IMO. I wrote these things in april 2008 and they are still all relevant now in december 2008:

The ArmA TG server (until recently) has very low population numbers, and is not consistent in the quality of play.

Re: PR versus ARMA
I have ArmA, but rarely play it because I HATE the Evo maps. I have yet to have a good round of standard ArmA except for one or two games of small co-op mods. I did use to play Sahrani Life, a lot, mostly because of the great role playing and close community. However, e-drama and server issues have essentially killed the mod, which is unfortunate. I think there were a couple of dedicated PR players in the mod as well (Deadfast and Jantje). I really wish it was back to it's glory days a couple of months ago as it was a nice change from PR from time to time. Here is a video I made of the mod during a hostage negotiation this past summer.

Or this one where a bunch of civilians purchased M107 rifles and went south of the border to declare themselves an independent nation.

Re: PR versus ARMA
like i've said in the past, both PR and ArmA have good points and bad points, and I think both are fun to play. If you are a good leader in PR, chances are you will be a good leader in ArmA, they both share similar skill sets.
The main thing I've seen though, is that players coming from PR, for the most part, just "get it" and fit in immediately. I dont see why there is a need for players to mock others for playing one game or the other, cause I think both are good games and playing both is not a problem.
What I've also noticed is I much rather play with a typical PR player in ArmA over a typical ArmA vanilla player. ArmA vanilla players are usually all about specops and sniping and chopper whoring
whereas PR players (well especially TG PR players) have a much more appreciative outlook on infantry tactics and support roles (which is basically everything that is not infantry).
I think ACE has definitely made ArmA much much closer to PR in terms of allowing bringing players together to fight as a team, instead of individual leet snipers. More missions need to be created to capitalize on this, and I think you'll see alot of cross-platform players that play both PR and ACE together as compliments together.
Who knows, if ArmA2 is more stable than ArmA1 and fixes the major problems, a joint effort between the PR team and ACE team I think would be a really amazing mod... wishful thinking hehe but compelling idea nonetheless..
