Re: PR versus ARMA
I like PR in that it strives towards realistic mechanics and representation, yet doesn't adhere to it to the detriment of making it an engaging experience. It's slow paced, tactical, and rewards teamwork, patience, and coordination over pure combat skill and twitch reflexes.
ARMA is intriguing to me, though I wonder if I even have the time these days necessary to both get up to speed and then participate in matches that sound like they can be even longer than PR. I was turned off the first one by bugs and clunky controls in the demo. What I hear about it certainly makes me want to give it an actual go online with real people, though... it seems quite interesting, if difficult to get started with.
I certainly look forward to seeing what others think of ARMA 2. If it's stable enough, I might just pull it off of steam and see how it goes.

Re: PR versus ARMA
steam installs are "tricky" but workable. Its not the demo I DL'd when the game first came out, its a much better beast with ACE.

Re: PR versus ARMA
I thought they were distributing it through steam. I would have presumed that would mean a straightforward install...

Re: PR versus ARMA
lol, yea its distributed, but there isnt exactly a wealth of support. They only patched it to 1.08.
read the steam forum stickies for a couple tricks, then run the game on its on without steam and patch as per Jeepo's instructions and it works fine.

Re: PR versus ARMA
The menus on ArmA are realy a pain... Itīs hard to control your own soldier, that keeped me away from it too, even who enjoy the game has the same point of view about the game design, and on the videos about ArmA2 it looks like that we havenīt any advance on that.
I enjoyned a lot to play Operation Flashpoint and Delta Force, but it was 10 years ago, ArmA didnīt make an advance on game design, just on the engine: the AI, on how trees falls and bunnys on the road... I canīt say hat they are doing a good job, because the game is now out yet, but from here it looks like an upgrade to ArmA....
The multiplayer and the modding comunity are another story. Thatīs the only reason that makes me want to try ArmA2 online, but I think that wonīt be any mod at the first week, right? So no rush to buy it now.... maybe I will wait for OFP2 to chose where my time will be spent, and a lot of people will wait too, and this is sad for the team of ArmA.
So, the "comparación" should not be PR vs ArmA2, but ArmA2 vs OFP2. The engine of BF2 is getting old, maybe PR will move to a new engine? BF3 is looking like a cartoon... Can whe have the PR team working on ArmA2 or OFP2 engine? What will be more "modder friendly" and what will be more "user friendly"?? I donīt know what is coming....
(I was watching videos of the gameplay of ArmA from TG comunity, it worth some time to watch.)

Re: PR versus ARMA
Gave the arma demo a shot. The same things that kept me from it before, the awkward controls, huge number of keys, and general usability issues, are still there. One thing I have to say for BF2... for all the limitations of the engine, the design makes the very basics of moving and shooting accessable.

Re: PR versus ARMA
Just played ARMA 2 warfare online and I must agree. The amount of controls and the rediculous complexity of the game is just frustating, the UI is worthless imo. A simple thing like selecting a spawn point is hard as hell. Bootcamp explains like 1/100 of the game, the rest you have to figure out yourself...
