I would recommend that this thread be ended. Due to a general lack of support for seriousness.

I agree it is a problem, but unless these things are reported as they happen to an admin on the spot, there is little you can do but give the people grief on chat.

We had one today that was a single man APC in a single man squad - both really bad. People gave him grief as an assett waster and so on, but there wasn't an admin on duty (not thier fault - the admins are great) to do anything at the time. Pressure from the team is the best remedy if there is no admin to clear it up on the spot. I would recommend writing to the other squad leaders and getting the chat up - communicaiton is always a winner on any battlefield, even if it is to get rid of a 2 man squad, or a single man APC....

After setting events in motion that basically unleashed Chuck Norris I feel obligated to make a serious post.

Locked squads are generally filled with regulars. If you ask them in chat to:
    A) Let you into the squad
    B) Unlock because the squad limit has been reached

They'll almost always comply. You just have to be diplomatic about it as with everything. If you whine about things people are less inclined to cooperate. And this is what I see a lot of on the server concerning locked squads, people begging to get into them and then cryin about it when people say no.

As for non-regs or griefers who 1 man locked squad an apc, that's generally ban bate and using the reporting feature will solve that for future generations

It kinda sucks to see locked specialty squads I agree. But to be perfectly honest some of them give a team an edge. Sniper squads when used in coordination with the commander can make life so much easier. I think that 3 man locked vehicle squads are kinda silly when there's more than one available vehicle mind you. Vehicle assets should stay as grouped as possible...

Meh, my lil bro would probably just say "Dea' wit it"... then I'd hit him.

I would MUCH rather see a locked 2 man helicopter squad, who have direct comms with the CO and get things done rather than a FULL 6 man helicopter squad with the following: 1 sniper in it wandering aimlessly in an empty part of the map, 1 tank in it who is one-man tard rushing the tank into the enemy, 2 pilots waiting around the airfield throwing red smoke and shooting at people spawning in and 1 pilot flying the ONLY avaliable transport helicopter, who cant fly for **** and constantly annoys infantry squads by flying over their heads and getting shot down on top of them.

Sorry but I think that locking squads is a useful feature in BF2, especially in PR when it comes to specialty units. As a commander I appreciate when a specialty squad will limit the number of players in their squad, so that the regular infantry squads can get more boots on the ground.

    Re: Seriuos PR Problem!!!

I unfortunately don't play on the TG server (due to geographical reasons.. I play over here in Yuuruhp! so the ping is pretty nasty) so I couldn't tell how often that happens.. but I've been wondering on what grounds certain squads feel they can monopolize team assets such as Sniper kits, Blackhawks, Jets, Tanks or APCs just by naming their squad accordingly? Over there you might all know who is the best fighter pilot or whatever, but I just feel left out when I see a squad, sometimes even a locked 2 or 3-man squad even, hogging a certain vehicle type. How about letting another squad try the BH next time it spawns, since you were eliminated and thus failed, using it this time? There is a chance they might even do a better job!
Anyway this is not a major irritation for me, as I try to play the function or kit that I notice my team is needing at the time. I just hope those "specialized" squads are doing the best they can with the power they've got in their hands, be it a sniper rifle, tank or jetplane. my two cents!

And Chuck Norris' tears can cure cancer. Too bad he never cries!

The overall goal of the game is to win (and have fun doing so of course). If we all want the warm fuzzies of being able to drive whatever we want whenever we want vanilla is the setting. The level of maturity required for PR should put you well above being upset because you can't snipe, drive, gun, fly, etc.

In many ways you need to earn a spot in specialty squads. It isn't even hard to do that much anyways... Just:
    A) follow orders
    B) work well with your squadmates
    C) have a basic understanding of how to use your toys

Do those things regularly and you'll get into locked squads usually by invite. Walk before ya run baby

If you never get into these squads, you're probably not asking or very unlucky. I've never had a problem tanking at least once a week since the dawn of time... Actually, the other night I couldn't get anyone to join my armor squad! What actually burns me most in PR is when the commander assigns assets to a squad and people go "Hey look, a toy for me to play with" and drive off against superior numbers while also abandoning the other 4 guys in their squad who are now gimped... That's a little more selfish than monopolizing assets because it hurts the entire team by setting them up for domination...

Actually to be honest there are few on the TG server that usually run with certain crews and when they don't get into those squads because of numbers or because there isn't anyone there they make a squad a lock it with just one person. I just saw one the other day named "Medic!" with one guy in it. He was sure as hell running around and doing the Medic thing but it was a one man locked squad.

On a tangent thought I wonder what an entire squad of Medics with a single Officer as SL would be like. Call the squad FirstAid or something and all they do is run around healing and reviving. It would be an odd thing to see.

I think it would work best if we adopted human wave tactics othervise the sq's would be too far apart but its worth a try

lets get some humanwaves going and we might see that this would be effective, thou not entierly in the spirit of the humenwave used by the soviets...

Well, in that case I'll take to the front and call my squad meat shield... I mean, thats what my squads usually amount to anyways due to my amazing leadership

About the locked squads named for assets. Couple of days ago on Kashan I think, some one asked for a pilot/gunner for the cobra, to join his squad for quite some time. So it doesn't always have to be asset hoggers.
