Randy, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against these guys and am most certainly not singeling them out... I too lock my squad sometimes.

Anyways, I don't feel like getting into a discussion right now and I think Tempus said enough.

Can anyone who has a problem with TF21 locking their squads please explain in a rational manner what, exactly, the issue here is? Is there really this gaping emptiness in so many PR players that only TF21 can fill?

The central issue seems to be the belief that locked squads equates a lack of teamwork. I think people are confusing "teamwork" with "inclusion", two completely separate concepts. TF21 does not promote open, unfiltered inclusion because it interferes with our own style of teamwork. TG does promote inclusion within itself, which is great, but some people want to translate that to all players, at all times, and I think that is how the rift begins; a misunderstanding and lack of acceptance for those who play differently than they do.

Clearly, the vast majority of the TG community understands this and only a select few that want to tear it down because of their own idea of what teamwork should be, and not what teamwork really is.

In PR.8, the devs are giving TF21 a custom squad leader kit. It plays Darth Vader's Theme, audible from 600 meters away.

thats nothing, i am going to be able to get an automatic reserved locked 1 man sniper squad kit. I am going to be the leetest sniper on every server i play on. I will be able to pawn every soldier that comes my way. and best part is they are allowing me to call it 1 man locked sniper squad. Even putting in more code so i can have a longer squad name. It is going to be awesome especially on armor maps, because i can use the silenced sniper rifle when i'm on the mec side against tanks, it is going to be sooo leeet.

*notice sarcasm, the music that i will be playing that will also be audible at 600m is Wham "wake me up before you go-go", or "Big Country", or elton johns "crocodile rock" on certain jungle/wetland maps.*

Actually, we did joke around about adding a .50 cal sniper rifle, hidden somewhere on each map that players would have to find. Pulling the trigger wouldn't fire any bullets, but instead yield a loud "BOOM, HEADSHOT!". We figured that some would use it for 30 minutes before realizing there was a problem.

Just because we sometimes play in locked squads, doesn't mean we have little interaction with the community... I'm constantly reporting enemy asset grid-locations to the team via team chat.. ALWAYS... sometimes until the commander marks it for the team!
When someone is calling for an engineer and I'm relatively close by, I help him get repaired.
When someone is calling for a medic, or is injured (I check my map frequently) and is relatively close by to my squad, I help him get some healing/rezzes.

Squads are not individual organisms themselves; they are organelles that assist the cell (the team) in accomplishing various tasks.

We do use the in-game VoIP... All the time.. We use the in-game VoIP, Commander VoIP, and TeamSpeak.

Re: TF21 - Behind the scenes

It's hard to make everyone happy... I understand your point guys about locking squads/inclusion issue.

Sometimes I find myself having black thoughts about only playing on PW nights when all squads are locked, the APC squad wants a helo, I need to take every other squad members in my humvee or I'm called a "one man humvee" cause I'm leaving to pickup squad members, being alone as infantry on top of Kashan's hills overlooking the bunkers with a medic kit wondering "why the hell am I playing this game", joining a squad when everybody leaves to avoid being squad member and having to yell at everyone to stick together, I'm in a armor squad running in the woods cause all the tanks are riding elsewhere on other squads and so on... I think everyone has the same frustrations about PR, since it is absolutely NOT fun to play when you have absolutely no teamwork showing up, and that even 2 months of playing on TG server I don't see much amelioration on normal nights...

I've played a couple of times with you guys and sincerly you make, even on the losing side, a hell of a game! TG and TF21 ftw!

Re: TF21 - Behind the scenes

You guys are certainly getting the short end of the stick when 0.8 comes out. A custom SL kit, a sniper rifle? The higher powers have assured me that the new "Ferris Model" medic kit will be made available to me in 0.8. Picture this: a 20 foot tall armored robotic suit (think ironman on PCP) with self-regenerating ammunition, auto-targeting systems, laser beams, jump jets, and shock paddles that can either revive teammates to full health instantly or otherwise zap enemies with bolts of electricity from a distance of 1000m. You guys are in trouble.

By the way, I think the thread has run its course. Many thanks to the TF21 guys for opening this thread up. Just dont start cloning Patterson or we could be in trouble.
