    Re: Covering Fire

The problem here, as the man who mention the death of the auto rifleman who gets x hairs on his head... Is that most people have no idea the concept of cover.

Unless i specifically make an effort to explain to my squad, 70% of the time my shooters lay on the opposite side of a berm... SO i say to them,

"MAKE SURE You have cover from the direction we are firing, as soon as you start getting shot at make sure you can take cover RIGHT away!"

For, when you are doing covering fire you do "DRAW FIRE", which is another aspect of the firing line which is ignored. If you are covering some position some 300 meters out you have a high chance of being spotted by someone not near the covered position who can AIM good at you. So, when doing a cover fire order you need to beable to TAKE COVER and then reset your minds towards finding the shooters who are not covered.

Remember those little green army men?
Remember the dude who had the binoculars, and then the ones who were on a knee with their guns out.
ANy ways, i think squad firing works best when !! OH MAN I LOVE IRAQI FREEDOM... err sorry i got a little distracted... what i mean is i think squad firing works best when only one person is exposed, looking for targets, and then after spotting them informs the squad, which makes ready to engage the target... Then upon ordered then simultaneously break cover and fire towards the mark.

And always, keep some cover near you... PLEASE

    Re: Covering Fire

I think the problem with all these tactic posts is that its much harder to actually do it in game under fire, so actual practice should count for much more in the end

I totally agree about the spotters and the firepower at the back, that applies to all units. You dont need the bait to even be aware you are covering them, pub teams will always blindly wander into danger so you might as well maximise the distraction opportunity

Good cover here, combine it with a squad in other varied well placed positions and he should score far better then 1:1 kdr

If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have obviously failed to plan properly.

    Re: Covering Fire

LOL... i was thinking more so the SL rather then bait..

Having everyone scan at the same time can be good until you make contact, then it's best to ready up the guns and switch to one spotter..

    Another thing..
And yes, it is hard to implement these tactics but it's a brain exercise.
Drawing fire, i remember playing CALL OF DUTY, the first one, the campaign.
At one point this dude was like "i will draw their fire then you flank"... I never forgot that.

If you have good cover and an enemy is bunkered in and you are out shot, then you can try a firing tactic wherein one member purposefully draws the enemy fire while the rest of the squad is undercover, ready to spring into shooting position in less then 1 sec... This will allow the squad perhaps an extra 3-5 seconds to re-aim without getting shot. It's good to have the fire drawer about 50 meters away from the fire team.

Ahhh, there are all sorts of "firing line tactics" which can be used. The idea is two opposing squads at a distance, both with good cover from a fixed direction. That direction defines the line, and the tactics play within the circle around both those directions.

With that note... The time between taking cover from fire and setting up to fire should be 2 seconds at the MOST..
This means that prone should be used for taking cover rather then shooting- use crouching and standing for shooting will allow you to take cover super fast.
