Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
1. Lag - to the point I begin to feel sick. Remove this and we can begin to talk of its benefits and negatives.
2. It would be good with some tweeks, as others have said. Maybe the west could be used or deleted; resize it. Size is an issue here, it is too big for the lag fest. Maybe some more flags. Changing coal mine to a lake sounds good. Adding aspects such as buildings for infantry, like making some flags infantry based/jeeps for them and yes, less tanks, make the map smaller.
3. It's basically a tank map atm or attack helicopter. Those of us that have to leave the sweets for others because we can't bear the shouting and rather cap flags (like in Kashan) end up lagging around with rifles not being able to shoot for toffee and then some tank comes up anyway.
5. I don't see why Hamyong has to go though I do know the base issues; or maps like EJOD or Kashan have less tickets compared to this map, as it stands. These are all good maps (though Hamyong could be a rape/bug fest if not managed). I have often wished maps such as EJOD and Kashan were the maps that had more tickets so the game could play out more. More twists and turns, like a good old chess game. The favouratism does seem skewd.. The map in question is unplayable as it stands and should be revised properly and removed till then. After such issues as raised, only then i think it could be an outstanding map.
6. I think this map has very good potential. Lag, size, flags and infantry orientated areas are prime notes for turning this map from a hindered one to a good one. Unfortunately the lag stops it at first base. As said, remove this by various methods and we can start to look at it being better.
7. The poll has also a minor issue that can read a major inacuracy and mindset, there are two "no's" to one "yes" (and a middling), so the percentages are misleading. That is you could look at the "yes" percentage being higher than " No", like "No I just stick with it because I have to" and so say the map is ok to stay - however the "No's are effectively divided in half, and so reduced to a half to the all encompasing "yes". Furthermore, "sticking with it because you have to" (the map) because - you like the server - is a far cry from turning off because "if you don't like it turn it off then" -which has been said. I would be wary of 'truths' put into the poll by others (and I don't mean the poll creator it's a tough question to ask in many respects); I mean, maths don't lie do they?
So I am sure people will put truth and spin on the maths via their own persective. One to watch.
That said, as said, change some major issues like lag and gameplay and size and we can start to talk of its benifits a bit more, as there are some and I believe with these changes it will be a good map indeed (but as other good maps will it be put in the dustbin? I lamented the ones people have 'hated' or 'loved' before, this is no different).Last edited by Taip3n; 07-10-2008 at 03:42 PM. Reason: making it clearer

Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
Lag - Qinling needs more then 2 gig on high settings, most maps dont. Make sure you reboot before you play and consider reducing a setting or two even if you are fine normally
2. I dont think the north west side of the map is an issue till you actually have line of sight upon it. BF2 doesnt load all textures until they are actually needed, this is how you get disk access (paging even) during a game
3. Infantry are needed to laser the LGB targets. Without that element of gameplay I agree its vehicle lobsided but in theory you have 4 mini jdams available every time the jets take off successfully but only if infantry call them in.
Its a failure of coordination, thats a player issue not the map.
5. Hamyong allows spawn killing from the first second of the game. Its not just whiners who dislike this, it really makes for poor gameplay.
The situation got worse as distance became a bigger element in PR I guess. Quick fix, set the fog to 200m?

i enjoy spotting targets for jets or sniping on this map. such a big area to hide in, so many opportunities. ;p and of course the occasional spec ops jobs are fun.

Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
i like it...but i like every map, as long as i am in a good squad. it lags a bit...so what. the whole team can suck, and i can loose 20 maps in a row...if i am in a good squad, with good people having a good time then i am having fun. if i cant get in a good squad, or create a squad that listens to orders, then it doesn't matter what map, or how many maps my team wins...i hate it, and will usually disconnect.

Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
Thanks for the input Tigger. Again, you give out the tech stuff to help find a reasonable and factual solution.
I agree with all your points, especially on the 'Hills', rape fest indeed and needs to be changed in that area. Fog sounds good but then everyone moaned about that sandstorm map, which I thought was also a map with ptential - at least it had lots of elements to make a great gamelay map.. but no.. gone). In a competition I was to be Chinese 2IC, imagine our faces when that map came up as we knew what would happen if some Brit unit got through our line: 'bye bye spawn' hello smaktard.
On this map though. Though because I can't fly helis anymore, I am usually a grunt on the ground because I can't be bothered with the bickering on tanks etc blah. A few more jeeps would be good for me to skid around on (yeah, me me me).
Though I have to admit more teamwork is needed for this map, and that is one reason why it has amazing potential because there is not much atm on this map.
Tanks being like uber-awesome glutton monsters aside, when faced against a normal infantry unit (yeah C4/LAT don't work as we know and a tank vs infantry would be like that, and yeah, other tanks/helis.. could be called in) and calling in the helis, I do think it's lag as the main culprit, and then a few minor tweeks, to make this map reach its evident potential, which are are discussing too, and I thank you for it.
For me. Well. I got an 'ok' Nvidia. Nothing special, a 7600GS. Not that that counts for much if as u say, other factors are involved. Still, I tend to play low setting to increase processor speed. Maybe it's my provider (Virgin atm :/ maybe where I am, i.e linespeed. Maybe it's because atm I use wireless until I am rigged up properly). A pentium 4 is nothing nowadays, apparently, who knows, I'm no tech.
But there are many Mohommed's out there having to go to the mountain. Surely, this means some technical expertise as you have, should sit down and make the map more practicable and reach this potential (or I go get a Nividia 8600GS and/or buy some sweets for a heli or tank).
It is a map with good potential, and it is a good alternative to all maps (especially Kashan I gues due to its size - but then again what about the small maps? Again it sems to be skewd). Then again, the developers got rid of some great maps in the past and that at the end of the day, is what we are stuck with.
Unless people such as your good self can make this map reach its potential or developers listen and re-add some old maps, or let us long grass in your face noobs face some, long range or close up in grass, it is all going to be skewd. This map is good because it is wide, rolling grassland. It's a damned good map. But, I think balance is what's needed, that and people such as tech minded or gameplay minded should sit down and push out these existing maps with potential. New maps based on the gameplay of those that were good in the past and why, and adding some of these old maps back aswell or try something based on them, is also what is needed. What is not needed is skewd values, such as I mentioned in the findings people may have for this very poll (e.g 'yes' is now at 36 where the 'no' or only if there are sweets make up the rest, but you wouldnt read the bars like that if you wanted it to stay and thus to be a 'yes' man - you would just read the mighty and largest 'yes' vote).
Sometimes I think you guys must think I'm a rebel or trouble. Not really.
Again, thanks Tigger for the insights, I hope you come up with more.Last edited by Taip3n; 07-11-2008 at 11:54 AM.

Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
My only joy in this map is killing the choppers with tank shells. I have done this every time I have gunned in a tank, including this evening. Otherwise the flag grouping in the bottom right leaves the rest of the map redundant and without action. That is my biggest issue.
Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
Which I'd say we did pretty well tonight. Good game man

So Quinling is on our current map rotation to give us some practice for our upcoming scrim against TTP. Overall, I think it's basically a woodland Kashan Desert 64. There's slightly more complaining due to the fact that the map gives lag to a good lot of players, which makes it less appealing than Kashan. I believe it has something to do with the new and ever-so-plenty trees that cover the entire map, though, I could be wrong.

Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
After the round we just played, I hate facing the challenger. Chinese tank goes down in two hits AFTER whacking an unsuspecting challenger 4 times broadside. Seem right to anyone else?

Re: Do you play Battle for Qinling ?
In the grand scheme of things, it does not matter.
The Chinese still won the round because we were more organised. Teamwork matters a lot more than petty equipment imbalances. However, I do agree with you, the tanks need fixing.
Qinling is a fun map. Please, do not remove it from the rotation.
