Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
Apparently I wasn't in time to see those names as mine was probably one of them. I like to fly on every map that has a choppa, but after reading this, I think I will only fly on Jabal where they have Hueys. Nothing will change my mind on that. I try to APC on EJOD 64 (usually just take one of them). I could on and on about what I do but... I want to loved not hated. Period.

Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
Gah! I usually lead an infantry squad and I have getten used to not getting any support from assets. (The times I have called out enemy APCs or Humvees out S/N village at Kashan and to wait 5 freaking minutes before it gets destroyed by a nearby tank...) So I couldn't care less which player gets them. But when too many people want the same asset there is indeed a problem. How embarassing it must have been to have an admin pausing the game...

Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
I should illucidate my point in saying that I intended to convey that stronger measures in dealing with the player-base would correct the asshattery... just a suggestion, though. It is phenomenal to know that there have been good matches happening on the server, though.

Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
eavy, then step up to command.......let people know what kits are needed and who should use them.......this thread is turning into a finger pointing game and the only thing it needs besides more cowbell, is for people to step up and command rather than whining and moaning..........no more excuses of "i am not a good commander, or i don't know how to command" .75 has been out how long? time to step up.

Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
Randy, I know your a great CO, but have you tried commanding during the day recently. I don't even know if you could restore order. I tried today. Man oh man it raises my blood pressure. Most squad leaders act as if my orders mean nothing, and do thier own thing. And I don't have to heart to report them because then they look at me and think I'm a complete ass.

Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
then why complain? If they don't expect you to take the position seriously then why would they take it seriously?
Report them, take SS and pm an admin...then they will be dealt with if needed.....put your foot down, get on TS if you cant find an admin do the above as well....
You have to let them know that TG isn't some random pub server its about mature tactical gaming based on communication and teamwork......i just hope that there are not any TG tag wearers who are implicated in your above post.
But nonetheless Report them Take SS and find an admin on TS or PM an admin with your SS and the circumstances.Randy = Ace ! - Warlab

Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
Firstly i'll say that i've found the majority of players on TG are mature and know what they're doing (at least relative to the rest of the PR/BF2 community). However like every community there are some bad eggs and points of conflict.
The maps aren't the problem, it's the fact people think they have more right to the assets then others. If you make it clear that it's all fair game (as it should be) then you just have to ban the sore losers who resort to TKing for assets.
The other night on Kashan 32 there was a locked helicopter squad who were using tanks at the beginning of the round, seemed fair enough because there obviously weren't choppers around for them to use yet and the infantry could use some armour support.
But then they drove their tanks all the way back to main base, leaving the infantry squads in the frontline just so they could ensure that no one else would take their choppers one they spawned. I'm not sure if it was the commander's intention to have the tanks pull out completely in return for some questionably effective air support but it seemed pretty silly to me.
Alternatively the tanks could of at least gone on a suicide run or something to do some damage to the enemy and hold them back in the time that it instead took for them to return to base and grab helicopters, take them off, then fly back again.
I can sort of see the point in having certain squads controlling certain assets as theoretically the commander can organise and coordinate the team easier, but with the ensuing negative "exclusive asset rights" behaviour it doesn't really seem worth it.
It should just be fair game whether a commander is on duty or not. If one squad wants to drive tanks or fly helicopters then they can attempt to obtain such asset, if not then better luck next time. The name of squads is pretty meaningless as well as often squads are not even being "Snipers" or using "Tanks." Whatever the squad is doing at one point or the other is mostly circumstancial.
Multi-role/asset squads can work just as well anyway, a proven example is one squad member can be a helicopter pilot and the rest can be spec ops/snipers. Being in the same squad the ground crew can easily use VOIP to request drop offs and extractions whilst the pilot can spot targets, and when the helicopter is unavailable the pilot can grab a different kit and help out on the ground. Having a light squad air mobile means they can be placed in all kinds of locations where they can either directly cover friendly troops or cause havoc/distraction to the enemy whilst the other squads advance. There will usually be other helicopters and marksmen kits available for other squads to use, plus the pilot can easily transport non squad members around when needed.
Sure that example operation can be done with seperate pilot and spec ops squads but that involves a lot more typing in teamchat and relaying voip from commander which adds delay and reduces effectiveness. Possibly even interfering or distracting from other squad operations. It obviously doesn't work all the time, but it's only one example of how multi-role/asset squads can work without strict commander organisation.
A couple of others to mention:
- A single tank can drive along with infantry from the same squad.
- A single attack chopper can hover over tanks from the same squad.
^ Both of these should result in mutual cover and shouldn't cause complications provided all the squad members are working towards the same objective.
Not to say a squad full of tankers alongside a seperate squad of infantry/attack choppers is any less effective. Just saying that theres nothing wrong with mixing it up provided everyone sticks together and covers each other.
If BF2 allowed VOIP inbetween squad leaders/members without having to relay via Commander then it'd be easier to coordinate an infantry squad with an armour squad. But at the moment an integrated squad of man and machines should far increase the reaction times between the spotting of threats and the covering of vunerable assets.
In the time that i takes to type something like "RPG at 230" in team chat to alert the tank squad 'covering' your infantry squad, you could have said it over VOIP to a tank within your squad and shot at the target.
If you think you can convince me that exclusive asset squads is worth all the negativity it stirs up, feel free to try.

Re: Yesterday's farce (Kashan 32)
There is another alternative sonic. File reports in the Contact an Admin forum. The only people that will see it is the admin staff. So if you dont want to give people the impression that you're being an ass, you can take care of the problem discreetly. But you should do something, because letting it slide because you feel awkward about it only exacerbates the problem as the people causing problems then feel like they can get away with it.
