Perfect. Who wants to play the same eight maps over and over ad nauseum? Put 'em all on the same server.

    Re: Second Server?

I would like to see a second public PR server but not necessarily INS only. There would be, what, 3 maps? Bashrah/Archer/Korengal? That's not enough to warrant a new server and I don't really believe in 1-map 24/7 servers. Perhaps it could be insurgent team maps (not just insurgent mode) like Helmand. Maybe another way of splitting up maps would be better...adding the other game modem (counter-attack?) or splitting the server into infantry and asset maplists, or large-scale/small-scale maps, etc.

Or, just make it a super-secret SM-only server.

    Re: Second Server?

After revising the thread, I'm pretty sure there is a big negative effect to this INS server, which overwhelms the good. It would be best to keep the current server and possibly another AAS. Just throw in some INS maps. We don't need a dedicated INS server.

Btw, you don't have to put all the maps on the same rotation, with more maps will bring more variety in the maplist

.8 will probably not only bring korengal...

    Re: Second Server?

Forget about economics: another PR server at TG will divide the community and tax an already thin admin staff. Neither is good for either server or, more importantly, the community as a whole in the long run.

    Re: Second Server?

I originally thought this was a great idea, but Disposible does make several valid points...

People buy supporting memberships for the slot.. its true.. being able to say they do it to "support the community" is just a bonus. (Some obvious exceptions acknowledged... no need to quote this and state how altruistic you are..)

I am concerned that people would let there SM status lapse if there were 2 servers...

What are the heaviest server days??
Would It be possible to run insurgency on the private server 3 days a week??
Or is this not possible because the server as it is now, does not have the bandwidth to accommodate 64 players??

If we stick with one server we will have more options regarding maplists, and this could help keeping it fresh...

If the insurgency maps are still bugged, (they dont work with AAS maps in the same rotation) I think it there should be an insurgency only maplist a few days a week..

A weekend server may be a cheaper option. And it would probably have more players.

To whoever is making this decision, do our opinions in this thread effect anything? Or has the decision already been made and we are merely discussing it.

because I really hope the opinions of the players and regulars are taken into account when the decision is made.

We have not come to a decision, and of course this thread will weigh heavily in our decision!

Ultimately I am making the decision, but I weigh heavily on the opinions of my game officers and I know in most cases the game officers strongly consider the opinions of their admin teams and the players.

At the end of the day, PR is VERY expensive to host. It's not the cost of the server, but the cost of the cumulative bandwidth. When you're using a steady 4-6MB/sec of bandwidth almost 24/7 it adds up VERY quickly.

It wouldn't be an issue if the server didn't see the same type of non-stop activity that our current PR server does, but I think it would reach a high level of saturation very quickly.

At the end of the day, a player becoming an SM just for the slot is fine as long as they still follow the rules and behave as we would expect them to within Tactical Gamer. If they are unruly, don't work with their team, or cause other problems within the community they are just as susceptible to being banned as a non-SM.

ok. Thank you both, this is a very hot topic, as of now there are 11 people veiwing it. I'm sure everyone has thier own opinions. So, if the admin team and TG officers are listening lets voice our opinions.

There are a lot of moving parts here. Some folks recommend things like taking down FH2 and replacing it with another PR server. The catch we have is in performance and resource allocation. We can take a heavily populated server and put it on the same box with a couple sparsely populated games, but we can't really put too many heavy-hitters on the same box without them ALL suffering from performance degradation.

We keep some games around that don't get any activity because they're not really using any resources that are feasible to allocate to another active game. If they become active we can find them new homes and/or see if it is practical to put them on their own boxes.

In this case, we know the server would get activity, but do we want to risk making PoE2 unplayable for the sake of opening up more slots for non-SMs?

    Re: Second Server?

Just my opinion, but I vote no on a second server. I think we should continue to focus on "quality" over "quantity."

Maybe a solution (which was mentioned earlier) is to bring back a theme night or two... one of which can be Insurgency Night with a focus on just those maps.
