Re: Out of curiousity...
I think there's a feeling of 'elitism' and 'TG admins not punishing TGers but banning anyone who dares enter their server without a tag'.
There's a lot of TG hate going round on the PR forums. It seems that a lot of it is people being banned for something that other servers consider ok, but is against the TG rules. They then post a 'OMG me banned plz unban kthxbye' thread, which gets locked. It all spirals from there, and like others have said, people tell their friends about 'how unfiar TG is', until everyone believes it.

Re: Out of curiousity...
I agree with all of the sentiment above. My addition is the fact that TG sets a standard. It's not just a standard of gameplay either. It's everything. Gameplay, attitude, teamwork, behavior. The downside to that is that the vast majority of other servers are lawless run-and-gun do-as-you-please servers. I've seen servers where if you take a vehicle that the admin wants, he just bans you, regardless of whether or not he was anywhere near the vehicle. I've seen servers that have absolutely no coordination and are just lone-wolf havens.
We simply dont operate that way here. We raise the bar and require that anyone who plays here set themselves to that level. The people who cant hack the load are quickly shown the door. Obviously not everyone is going to like playing the game the way its meant to be played. Theres nothing wrong with that. But by the same token, you cant expect other people to bend their server rules to the way you want to play.
As said above, as many people as have voices will always have a bone to pick. Our numbers and our community speaks for itself. We have a gigantic playerbase that includes developers, testers, public relations and contributors for the mod, all of whom play here because they enjoy it. We're in the top ten BF2 servers on earth, not just top ten PR servers. It's not about bragging, it's a clear statement of how successful you can be with high standards in the face of absurdity and smacktardism.

Why, oh great forum gods, must I spread more rep before giving it to Ferris again?!?! Why?

Re: Out of curiousity...
Well, theres also a chance that you were on the TTP server, which in reality is the exact opposite of TG.
And if not, then... well, its all been said before.

Re: Out of curiousity...
I agree with the points Ferris has explained. His posts usually cover my opinion anyway

However, I must say that sometimes posts like these, sirsolo, are exactly what start all this "hate" towards TG or other communities. I mean, I understand that you may not intend to put TTP in a bad light in comparison to TG, but seriously, someone from TTP or another community could find that post offensive and connect that offense with TG as a whole. And must I remind you this is the internet after all, there is a very good chance someone will find it and take offense.

Re: Out of curiousity...
Here is my take on this.
TG Project Reality admins get along with about 90% of other server admins. It is their player base that say some of the negative things about our server. Ferris and I had a discussion the other night about this. For those of you who remember, when v.05 came out, we were not that popular. Just didn't have a large player base as we do now. But I remember when Teamkilling and general smacktardery was a common thing on OUR server. It was not the admins fault...they didn't know how to effectively admin this kind of game and there wasn't enough of them.
Once we got a few more admins on board, we cleaned house. Rule breakers would be rooted out and smacktards will be banned. This in-turn created a better gaming experience for all PR players...new and old. Word got around that we had a good server that was admined well and where smacktards would no longer be tolerated. This in-turn pissed alot of the lone wolfs and smacktards off and started making all these post's about how the "TG PR server suxors" in the PR forums. At first, this really hurt our reputation. Then when Disposable made a video about one and called his bluff in the PR forums, people started to realize that obviously we are doing something good. I am not trying to be "elitist" at all...as a matter of fact, I hate that we would get such labels. I have made several threads reminding our regulars and IHS members to stay humble.
I am proud of what myself and other admins have done to OUR server. At one point we were #2 BF2 server world-wide and we have been in the top 10 for a long time. I am not bragging here, but obviously we are doing something good.Last edited by Dirtboy; 08-22-2008 at 01:27 AM.

Re: Out of curiousity...
I have also played on most servers, and i can concur that TG server is definatly the most organised teamwork orientated server on the net. Admins are fair, great squadies and heaps of fun.
Anyway does it really matter what other people think when the server is always rocken?
I want to play.... stuck at work

Re: Out of curiousity...
There's also a sentiment that only TGers get to have people punished when someone does do something wrong. Of course the TGers/regulars mainly know how to report correctly, use teamspeak to get an admin, etc. They also don't realize that if they report correctly and admin can take care of the problem after the fact.
I have given up trying to tell people how to report in game. When I first started on TG servers outside NS I found the rules to be silly and convoluted, but I have grown to understand their fairness and see that they are an attempt to promote gameplay over realism with as much realism as possible. Some people never understand or are still at the don't understand stage, and they are the ones who rant and rave on forums.Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Well if they are talking about the TG server on other servers we must be something right.

Re: Out of curiousity...
Best thing to do is simply get a group of 5 or 6 guys, go to their server, and murder them in their own yard!

In all seriousness, it is like was stated above, its jealousy and that's really a compliment!

Re: Out of curiousity...
Well, IMO there are two kind of TG haters:
1. general smacktards and idiots who got banned because the server didn't adjust to their liking (as said above)
2. people on the receiving end of some of the incidents described in the following thread : http://www.tacticalgamer.com/battlef...eeds-stop.html
The server and community may be spotless, but they are not immaculate.

Re: Out of curiousity...
There's also the fact that the TG server seems to have a LOT more skillful players on it at any given time. Somebody new to PR, or somebody who doesn't really play it often, will most likely get their rear ends handed to them on this server. There are nights when I'll be playing on the TG server and just keep getting killed over and over, so much that I'll switch to a different server where I stand a chance, and I consider myself good at this game, or at least good enough to kill more than I die. It takes a lot of skill to play on this server and those who don't have it are a lot more likely to complain.

Re: Out of curiousity...
I would have to agree with you on some points OldieBones. The TG server, as a whole, is very skilled. From infantry to armor to Air power. But we try and disperse the talent evenly on both sides so we can get some competitive games.
But being skilled does not mean being a "twitch" player. You do not need to be a crack shot. What we excel at is team work. Some pubbies may get that perception that we are twitch players, but in fact, we have excellent comm's with the CO and over TS.
Great observation though Oldie...+Rep

Re: Out of curiousity...
Having been away from BF2 and tactical games in general for a couple of years, I think the server setup and level of play is fabulous. You can log in 24 hours a day and find competent leadership and people willing & able to follow. The contrast from the first months of BF2 @ TG (or anywhere else) is just amazing.
