Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
I assume you're adressing me.
Sonic assumed my age limit 20. You assume age 16. I don't mention a 'limit,' nor have one.
But to me, a 14-year-old is unquestionable a child, however how mature for age. He(/she) could might as well be great players, i have examples of my own of young players exceeding in teamwork.
Sure, i respect that.
But some of those 14-year-olds wouldn't like having an infant telling them what to do in a tactical game either. To put it in a controversial perspective...
Good thing we have freedom of choice in most cases.
With all respect, i disagree. I don't like squadmembers telling/advising me what to do and how to act when i squadlead either. I would advice them to get into squad lead by people that fit their pace of gameplay, observe and reflect of things they think they do right and things they think could be done better. Copy+paste from your betters. That's what i offer of guidance.
Edit: And a second advice; if anyone give you a hard time because of age, dont hesitate to kick them.Last edited by bjoffe; 12-22-2008 at 03:27 PM.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Its human nature to not want to take orders from someone who could technically be your child. If you were 20-30 at the workplace, and you had a 16yr old manager it would just not work. Some people may not mind, but most do. As you play more, and get a reputation, more [judgemental] people will be more likely to join your squad.
If you enjoy squad leading - keep at it, and ignore the people who won't give you the respect just because of your age. As long as you keep it mature, on task, organized, and good communication going between all your squad members, and other squad leaders people will continue to love being in your squad.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
See, now I don't agree with that. A good squad leader takes the advice of his squad and then makes a decision on courses of action. I know you cant do that all the time for every little thing. When making a plan on what to do "next" I always try to include input from the rest of the squad. Many Many times I have someone in my squad come up with an amazing idea that I would not have thought of doing. It's ok to include others in your decision making process. IMHO
I have always enjoyed being in Sonic's squad. We get things done AND we have FUN doing it. That is the most important thing in my opinion. What's weird about a young goats head, smoking a joint, tied with a scarf to a mobile artillery gun? - Jeepo

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
It's not your age on the internet that matters, it's how low your voice is. If you're 14 and you have a manly voice, then no one will question you, but if you have a higher voice it's harder for you to be taken seriously. It's just how it is. Don't let it get you down man, We've all been there, hell i still sound really young, just build a reputation as a good SL and they can't deny you!

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
I have no problem playing in squads led by younger players... But experience has taught me that I usually have more fun and agree more with the playstyle of more mature players than the younger ones.
I do agree squad members should give ideas, I do it all the time. However, a lot of players sometimes do not know the difference between "giving advice" and "squad leading from the backseat". A good amount of players have gotten DAS BOOT from me for doing that, after 1 or 2 warnings kinda like "hey bro, I AM the Fin SL!!!".|TG-69th|Kevlar

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
i dont mind playing with 14 years old players...
tough i think their parent should be aware of this military games, wich is very realistic compared to vbf2 or any other fps games out there. They may get attracted to the military when they get older, some may be mature enough too understand that pr is no way near the real war, the real military. I know someone who went to kandahar province in afghanistan, in the panjawi district(or whatever its called ,dont remember the exact names) and by the things he told me, this war doesnt look pretty.
The korengal map may be very well made and cool in the game, but in real life korengal valley is one of the most deadliest place in afghanistan(maybe in the world) together with kandahar province and helmand province. Im still thinking about it when i play this map sometimes, i just doesnt fell right but i still do it anyway...
I always liked the military since i was young, too much war movies and war games, just dont want to engage myself and thats what the ''14 yo'' players should understand.
Anyway all that only to ask one question !
Should they put a rating on every war games to make it 16+ or even 18+? thats the question( I know this wont happens any time soon, since they are making so much money with young players)

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Not at all. I have no intentions in joining the military, even though there are many influences promoting that. If you aren't mature enough to understand that this is a game, not real. You shouldn't play at all. It should be the child's responsibility to realize this.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Yeah i know that, Pr may not be a good example since it require a lot of maturity and teamwork. most young players that play pr understand the difference between real warfare and virtual warfare.
but all the others fps out there have attracted some young players toward violence and warfare, who couldnt tell the difference between it and now they are stuck in it.(i know its a dark way to see the military...lol)the military is boring for most people, only a a few likes it and really stay inside, the rest just curse and whine about it until they get out.
what i say is that their parents should be aware of those games, at this age its the parent choice!

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Bjoffe, i encourage you and some other naysayers to sign up for the next TGU Squad Leading session. Yesterday was extremely helpful in regards to setting up fortifications when a FB or Bunker is put down, dealing with those who refuse to follow orders/refusal to request a kit and how to deal with it instead of instantaneously typing in global chat: !Reporting
It was nice to take this class, because it was more of a refresher course, since for about 2 months i took a break from Squad leading altogether. Dispo, Mcgann and A_Ground_Pilot (cougar showed up late, i think because he had to attend a pre-xmas christmas mass with his parents @ 10am California time), all gave us examples and situations that many of us already knew, but we all were very able and willing to listen. TG Lake asked some very good questions, actually a question in which this topic was about.
I learned some new ways on how to communicate with my squad upon the beginning of the map rather than waiting until the 2min mark is up and then explaining. I even have a new way of communicating with squad members who are much younger than me and who might be new to the server.
I hope that the TGU Session has a minutes/follow section that could be viewed by those who were not available to make it/didn't sign up can view for their own well being.Randy = Ace ! - Warlab

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
If I'm in a squad with a young sounding SL (or SM, for the matter of that), and they're kicking ass, I will ask how old they are and give them a virtual high five! If they're acting like an ass hat, I won't even bother and will just leave the squad. Same goes for any adult ass hats.
Don't worry, man. The balls will drop relatively soon and cause you more trouble than being called out in PR will ever do. Just keep your chin up and having a good time.
If the parents don't know what their kids are playing (whatever the rating), then the rating is really kind of academic.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
The parents should know, thats the problem, they are there for a reason.
The good thing is that here at TG the few under 16 players are pretty mature for their age, i've been in pwnege's squad before and he does a great job, i haven't been in Lakes or Figther's squad but i have heard no complaints.
Bottom Line, everyone deserves a chance, automatically giving someone a negative for being younger than you and doing what you think is right instead of what the SL thinks is right is WRONG!

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Hey guys, i play an online war game.
This has made my mind fill with useless junk, such as when to bunny hop at opportune moments and how to control bullets with my mind.
I totally plan on joining the army now.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
You know, seeing this reminded me of the couple times I was in a particular SL's squad and made some comments on what I thought should have been done and next thing I know I was being kicked from the squad(no arguing, warning, or anything, just a kick). Well, it only took 2 times for me to see this person was not a good SL IMO just because of this reason so I will no longer get into their squad at all(and yeah, they play a lot on the TG server). For the majority most of the SL's will take advise from their squad mates unless it is a particular order we need to be following coming from the CO or just suicide.
As for the age, I agree that in the work place most older people can not come to respect a younger person telling them how to perform their job especially if the older person has been in the profession longer then their boss may have been alive. Most younger people will just step into that position of being boss because of who they know or their education(graduated from college), to me that does not mean they have more knowledge of what they are doing. They learned from a book and not experience and experience usually means more to me than what the book says. For the most part SL'ing is the same way, A lot of older gamers look at younger gamers as just getting into the PR scene and not having no experience in SL'ing so leave it to the older gamers. Myself, I see so many people playing PR but hardly anyone wants to step up t be SL, so it doesn't matter who it really is that leads us as long as they do their best.
Of course if they are young and have the helium voice they need to speak up and find a voice changer, I hate hearing the pipsqueak of a mouse in my ears.
