Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
the video game isn't a recruiting tool, never was intended that way, never was marketed that way, your sarcastic post proves a point that some teenagers might make it to seem that way, and yes if you injure a real teammate who has to be evac'ed out of an AO if you pick up his kit you will die.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
I think the answer is simple for the younger ones. Just keep your head down, work hard and dont talk too much over the comms. Im roughly the same age as Sonic, but no-ones mocked me yet. ( Maybe its because im British. Respect.)

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Better said then i did. Dialogue when playing is a very good thing, entering a squad and telling someone how to act (without conscent) goes strongly against my view of having a good time, for both parties. Or maybe we simply agree to disagree, McGann. Who knows. Including this clarification i still mean what i originally wrote.
Dunno if this was directed at me as well? I never said otherwise..
Dude, i really don't know how to read this...?
Naysayers? Emphasize, please..
You sound more like you want me to learn 'the TG ethos' rather then learn how to SL.
Have I ever squadled you, Randy? I admit i don't consider myself a top-notch leader/authoritarian figure, but that has more to do with personal abilities then lack of experience. However I am aware of at wich pace i prefer to play this game, and what kind of tactics i like to employ. I always try to improve myself, but i don't take this as an encouragement, rather some kind of provocation.
I think i'm fueling a fire, but this post of yours made me reply.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Seconded. My best rounds as an SL have always had this dynamic in the squad.
I would also quote Dispo highlighting the attitude about Patience and Community. And add Wickens' humourous jealousy about making videos is exact :P ..exact on taking things a little easy when viewing who knows what at what age.
Lead by example to your peers whatever age (or whatever) they are; act with humility and openness. And act in a community spirit. Be patient with others and yourself. Have an eye to laugh heartily as best you can and be as open as you can. You may learn something and gain more than a little wisdom along the way.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Omg I dont believe what I'm reading! A Sqaud Leader is exactly that...a leader!
It dosnt matter how old they are, if you are in their squad you put up or shut up! you chose to join the squad, if you dont like it leave...
Age has nothing to do with playing Pr we are all learning.....all here to have fun, Iv'e been in many younger TG members sqauds and really enjoyed the leadership, some I have not agreed with their orders, but as I am a member of their squad, i went along with what they said, however I don't agree with the way some younger guys miss use the authority handend down to them as a Squad Leader "Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself" Shouting is a sign of frustration....just sort the issue!

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
bjoffe i agree with you on some points, i too won't play with an 8 year, hell ill even ask the kid for his number so i can call and tell his parents to get the kid off the game, normally i squad up with people who are 17+ by now i know the guys i like to squad up with so, but by some chance if there is a SL who is around 16 ill work with him, i'm not against it, pwn and fighter are exceptions i think they are decent SL's, you just have to give em a break, i've run into more players lately who are 18+ who have a problem with the SL having players ask what kit they want to use, or they have a problem with staying put in an area (example guarding a kashan bunker) i've seen many players rush up to the stairs thinking that a grenade won't kill them and voila, then they complain to me, or tell me i'm a control freak...........its lack of appreciation and common sense.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
If you don't use voice coms you will get significantly less questions about your age. Some of the better players I've played with do this. I have no idea if they are male female young old. They could be a robot for all I care.
Or you could get one of those voice distortion boxes.|TG-12th| Namebot

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
I prefer using comms as opposed to squad/team chat. I feel it brings the squad closer together as a unit, I can hear and get to know their voices and know where they are when they call something out, and I couldn't give a damn how old they are if they know their stuff. It's still a video game, after all, and I know many of them can do a far better job than I can.
Smacktards suck though, no matter how old they are.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
The voice of course is the only thing they really know from you. High pitched voices are typical for teenagers and the VOIP encoding amplifies this characteristic. However it is really hard to tell the difference between a minor and a woman because of VOIP encoding effects. Naturally people become curious who you are.
By asking your age some guys subtily ask if ur a girl.
Some are plain curious.
Others really want to know whether your a peer.
And again others will want to know what they will be facing.
I do not want to blend you with positive reasons because there are also some rather unpleasant points that arise.
Every one develops all the the time - when you've learned something new, you've developed.
However there are stages in the human development in which you learn more than in others. One of those stages is the adolescence. It has many reasons why you learn so much but one main reason is that you are still missing a lot of skills and abilities. (You can't know everything yet.)
Youth development
Youth development or adolescent development is the process through which adolescents (alternately called youth or young adults) acquire the cognitive, social, and emotional skills and abilities required to navigate life.
This is used for a stereotype point of view:
The thing is that there are some people who do not want to have to deal with young people because they think that young people are too much of a burden for them. While this may have many reasons - one might have one's own problems or simply does not feel like teaching some one else or wasn't prepared for additionally needed remarks - these are in rare cases personal grudges hindering the cooperation.
Such rejections regularly offend the rejected. Knowing their mindset, these people will try to foresee and avoide unnecessary conflicts by asking for your age and avoiding you.
While some might reject you because of your age or simply judged by your voice I would like to give you the advice to disregard such behavior and focus on the fun part of the game and the community. Give those rejecting people time to get to know you and do not dwell on vengeance.

Don't feel too bad, no one cares how old I am.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
I am 35 but I feel a lot older, my knees are smashed to bits from football and my back aches! Enjoy your age and disregard the naysayers.
One issue I think we are perhaps skating over is the credit due to the young players for stepping up. We are always short of leaders and the sooner some of talented young players get some games as SL and CO under their belt the better.
We have plenty of players that have been playing PR for ages in other people's squads, coasting and taking it easy. Often these players will backseat squadlead and complain yet they don't have the courage to step up, take a risk and lead. Full credit to you for stepping up and C/O'ing. By the way if you are C/o and someone fails to follow an order, ask them reasonably why and consider their answer, if you don't consider their reasons valid restate the order. If they continue to ignore the order report em, that is the rule.
Pick up what you can from other squad leaders around you, perhaps alternate your time as SL and SM with someone you like. I do it, it's a nice break from Sl'ing and you learn a lot from other SL's.
There is such a lack of leadership at times on the server that the squads fill up instantly, more Sl's equals more organised squads and better games. After all the complaints about imbalanced games etc it's nice to see the younger players trying to be part of the long term solution by producing the leadership of tomorrow. Higher pitched voices don't bother me, lazy back seat SL's do. I listen to suggestions from my squads, evaluate them and then I tell the squad what we are going to do. That is my perogative as SL, plus I am privvy to more information than the SM making the suggestion. To the sm whose has put his idea forward I say this, just because I have not chosen to follow your suggestion don't be offended. I have my map open more than you, I am getting intel from the c/o and I am on team speak with the other S/L's. I evaluated your suggestion and on this occasion chose to do something else but thank you for your input. Now do as you're told!
On the other hand it could be one of those days where I have had a few got turned round and disorientated and need someone to help me find my commmand truck lol.

Re: why do people ask you about how old you are?
Age doesn't mean anything, maturity and individual abilities does.
Several of our younger TG members here will evolve into awesome SL'ers, and some of them already have.
