Re: Playing with a Commander
There was a commander playing yesterday on Tad Sae who was doing a fantastic job, very little mic work but he got the markers down spot on when mine and another squad called them out. We were sat in the city as US in a defence giving out contact reports and it worked really well. The markers went down every 25 seconds or so, and it showed where the enemy were moving to, we then coordinated sending another squad out to skirmish so we didn't get surrounded. It could of been done without a CO but it would of been painstakingly difficult over text.

Re: Playing with a Commander
One of the reasons I don't step up is because some times there are just so many asses out there. They just ignore you. So when things hit the **** they keep ignoring you so you can't do anything and even watch them on the map, make the stupidest or smartest move. Either way, it's still annoying when your at control but not in control. If that makes sense.

Re: Playing with a Commander
Reread TG-PR Rules concerning orders (dont have enough posts to put up a link, sry).
I do have some suggestions that might help, because the last thing we need as players are teammates that get burned out because they have a bad experience. Whats the point of playing if you do not have a good time playing the way we all like to play?
Active CO - If you are the starting CO (before round start) be sure to talk with all SLs and discuss the objective/plan of action. This lets everyone know A) your team has a competant CO that is willing to do the job right..B) which assets are assigned to whom..and C) that the team-wide communication circle is complete.
Passive CO - If you join the server and get CO well into the round; your the rookie. Your team has already begun their mission and are (hopefully) prepared to do just that. Ive seen it many times, 4 sqds working without a CO going about their objectives, quite successfully, until a new CO comes along that has no clue whats going on. What has worked? What has failed? etc.. Instant conflict.
Most SLs have a primary objective... not to kill everyone they see but to capture a point, setup defences, secure some tunnel somewhere. Often their kit loadout is setup specificlly for thier mission. If its working, try not to disrupt this process. Dont give orders (unless of course its needed like sending backup, transport, etc.). Just sit back and help out as much as you can in a passive manner.
The issue here is that it takes a teamwork-motivated individual to even succeed. It takes even more of a tactical individual to step up and be a CO. Everyone makes mistakes; "perfect" SLs, learning COs, everyone. This is why I dont like seeing SLs trash-talk a CO who didnt get that backup to their location in time. It takes alot and its not easy.
But keep trying, sooner or later itl work out.

Re: Playing with a Commander
This is very important tip. IF I'm stepping up in the middle of a round as CO, I usually let 5-10 minutes pass before I give orders.Passive CO - If you join the server and get CO well into the round; your the rookie. Your team has already begun their mission and are (hopefully) prepared to do just that. Ive seen it many times, 4 sqds working without a CO going about their objectives, quite successfully, until a new CO comes along that has no clue whats going on. What has worked? What has failed? etc.. Instant conflict.
I just observe and try to see what each squad is doing. If some of them start talking to me, already I know it will be good but sometimes this doesnt always happen.
Just remember, you have to EARN the trust of the SL's, especially when a round is under way. If the SL that you are commanding does not respect/trust you, then he will not want to follow your orders or constantly second guess you. So make sure that your first couple orders will not get them killed.

Re: Playing with a Commander
I got a funny
Fuzzhead(the guy above me) was a CO on a Kashan round.
I'm ina logistics squad with Reaper
In a log truck I drive over to the CO station, and lean on the horn.
Do this for a couple seconds
He jumps out runs around the station, and just stares at me.
I turn around and run for my life

Re: Playing with a Commander
Actually you can do something
Report them for disobeying CO orders, which on TG is considered a capital offense (and rightfully so). This will tell any idiot to stop ignoring you and get on with it unless they want to face a kick or a ban. Sure it doesn't exactly make you any friends but sometimes to have fun you have to be the bad guy.
