I kind of lump them alltogether, though tow adds an extra risk of being flanked

A good general rule is if the armour or apc advances alone, ie. the map around the vehicle is clear of blue dots then its gone too far. (vehicles dont count as they have less awareness, etc)
What is the purpose of the apc advancing alone and it basically means imminent death imo.

When they asked you to move up so you could kill, what was wrong with zooming and using the distance the apc has.

The real reason is convenience, the apc is a pain to manoeuvre off road with an angle to attack with so its easier just to drive on nice smooth road with no cover at all, right upto the enemy.
The most common tactic used is just about doing the easiest thing possible so thats a great way to figure out how to attack. ie. place a mine on the inside of a blind corner, people always cut corners

The game is incredibly deep because we're playing against people not robots so all these things make a difference in game imo

I have not seen it, as I said.

I have also attempted leading all kinds of squads. The only one's I am capable of are infantry and air (in which I am actually a squad leader, leading my pilots from the ground or from a passenger seat in the trans helo). Armor/APC squads are not my cup of tea, nor would it be in the interest of the team if I were to attempt to start running them again.

I wouldn't say I have failed... I have just found 23 different ways NOT to lead an armored squad.

The things about APCs is they are waaaaaaay too fragile... You can be taken out by: mine, HAT, LAT, enemy tanks, enemy APCs and sometimes evenby .50 cals (BRDMs).

They usually lack firepower, with a couple exceptions... But take the BTR-60. It can pretty much take on infantry (if that... one AT and it's history).

Like someone said before, I'd rather walk sometimes with my squad than to risk us all being killed. I do like to see them more transport focused in the future, but still, every single time I command my squad to board an APC i get goosebumps.

apc is like the difference between a dartboard and a barn door, its really much easier to hit so your caution is correct imo

Had some moderate success on fallujah when mirroring an infantry squad, must have been some mutual support going on or just plain luck because we didnt die for like 20 mins.

Only light use of cover was available just because fallujah is pretty harsh like that.

Unfortunately I had the bright idea of using the edge of the map as a safe area but rushed forward from our semi hull down position and ran over a mine, never rush, the walking pace of the escorted squad is a good guide i guess

the best way to use apcs: 6 men inf squad + 3 men apc+supply truck, but requires ts.
inf is defending apc, apc is defending inf; apc stays near inf to be quick when they need a ride or firepower

Another thing I've found, both while manning and APC and trying to take it out - Patience makes you survive in a APC vs HAT duel. Whoever's not rushing forward or looking up to shoot will survive. I'd like to compare risks with tickets when making quick judgements, often that makes me stay in the safe zone.

    Here's a thought:

How about Joining the APC and the SpecOP team together.

The will keep each other safe, SpecOP team makes sure the APC does not drive into danger and the APC can cover any SpecOP team retreat.
SpecOP can stay on the front line if they die re-arm and re-kit, they can do hit and run asset assault with C4 (dash in on APC jump out plant, jump in and ride away)

But mostly APC would behind friendly lines getting reports directly from SpecOPs if it safe to move up with the troops.

Last night when playing as an Insurgent on Fallujah West, the USMC did do well bringing in infantry with 2 APCs as support. It kept our movement pinned down and really helped them find caches as the less organized squads kept running into the open.

APC supported by infantry in the city = win.

Yeah in an urban setting APCs can really help an infantry squad advance, as long as they stay behind the inf. Long range AT is less of a threat (especially against insurgency) and you generally know when enemy assets are on the way to kill you.

However, in my experience driving around in urban settings to move infantry is pretty risky. A lot more so than in more open area settings.

Wow you're right. sometimes the infantry would prefer a foot approach, rather than all be killed in an APC. And then there are other times when 1/2 of your team is left at base on EJOD.

I guess some people still haven't adjusted to 0.85?

Agreed that driving around in an urban setting is risky. As long as your infantry flush out any sappers and RPG kits, you can keep them covered from the normal insurgents. It's good that 1 RPG shot don't take down an APC huh?

At least in a perfect world.

Nope, Not on Ramiel, last night proved that 2, 6 man infantry squads can work hand in hand with a 2 Stryker's.

Dispo's 6 man squad was assigned to ristin's stryker.

My 6 man squad was assigned to Portable Cougar's stryker.

Worked perfectly, better than perfect actually, there were no problems, i told my guys how we were going to line up 3 on a side, and dispo handled his troops accordingly.

It was a sight to see.

Next I look forward to trying this out on Kashan with Bradley Support, and even Heavy Armor Support in the beginning.

All the naysayers i suggest you watch the BFR for Ramiel ending at 1:20AM EST or so on Feb 12 2009.
