Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
db - I definitely see the potential. Where I'm struggling is the fact that the settings are user-configurable, so now we have to trust players to all have the same distance settings, etc. While I agree that everyone in one channel is realistic, there are obvious drawbacks to this as well, namely the less-than desirable behavior of players that we all know is going to happen. I'm also wondering about admin rights on the mumble server, but I need to look into the documentation before I rush to judgment there. TG will be setting up it's own server in the next few weeks, but we feel that the software needs to mature a little bit before we are comfortable making it a part of the game. This doesn't mean, however, that players are not free to use it on their own on the server the PR developers have provided.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
exactly my thoughts. I now kick anyone using mumble from my squad because frankly, trying to sneakily capture a flag whilst some clown is making noise just isn't my thing. In real life I would whisper or use hand signals, but everything on mumble is a shout, then you have the effect of objects in the path of the sound waves and the way the sound raves react etc. Voip works fine apart from Squad Leader contact.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
Well I can't see it ever really being used if the enemy can hear you. Voip will be better and people will use that and just have mumble on as an enemy detector. clear Choice imo if we want the software to be used.
Another thing is that there are always some people that you can hear from the other side of the map. Even though the spatial thing is working. I can e.g. clearly hear the voices coming from the main but very silently. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
LMAO
As much as I think this mumble is cool, has potential. I don't see it working in PR unless the configurables are set by the server. And even then I'm still in doubt. I'm still experimenting with it but have recently given up because of the ridiculous conversations in the TG channel.
"Can you hear me?" "Yeah, I can hear you. Can you hear me" " Where are you?" " Right here, where are you? " "Where, I don't see you"
For godsake cant you find another channel for that?

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
I haven't had the chance to try it yet, i would be interested in trying it on a training server rather than in game at first. Unedible I need to take a look at your youtube video of it, and see how the gameplay compares to that of TS and in game VOIP.
Though I don't have any previous experience with it yet, i would only hope that those who do end up using the TG server use it the way it is supposed to be used, maybe the mumble server will have its own I respect and understand rules that need to be PM'ed to an admin to have the ability to use the server..........
It will be interesting to see if those who use mumble are also on TS, or if there are those who just use mumble, because if you use mumble there's no reason why you can't be on TS.........Randy = Ace ! - Warlab

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
What I'm really failing to understand is the formation of 'mumble squads'. Given it's unlimited range, proven reliability and secrecy, why not stick to regular VOIP? It's strange that when Mumble is such a great tool for communication from squad to squad, all the Mumble users seem to bunch up in one squad anyway.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
People who want to try out a new toy, honestly.
I honestly see a lot of benefit from mumble; instead of bunching up team chat or TS coordination, I can simply use mumble for LZ coordinates with squads loading up; or I can use it to coordinate a multiple squad attack easily and quickly in a safe zone.
Granted, some things seem to be a bit askew, such as Nardini, Al, and others apparently being able to hear me in my main; However, I think it may be a problem with the 4km map and being near the edges, as I never really got the chance to leave the base (during the PW Night, when I saw Nardini and Al comment about it) because of being in and trying to fix an under-manned jet squad (ie. me seeing that the team's going to lose without Air Support) that couldn't hope to gain air dominance.
I'll be doing more testing with it.
PS. Those of you who kick out mumble users; I suggest you ask if they use Push-To-Talk. I do, and I have yet to experience this magic 'they heard me through mumble' effect. Maybe I'm just lucky or something, or smart.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
To be fair, I should add that there were some interesting scenarios during one game. Our squad could hear tank crewmen chatting away as they patrolled on Qai River "I wonder where they are?" , while we were hiding in the field trying to cap a flag..
So one, we knew we had been spotted. And two knew we needed to get out of Dodge.
Then a whole squad approached talking about their jobs or what have you.. clueless to our very close proximity.. We popped up and gave them a surprise. Other than that people came into the channel doing mic check or farting around.
I don't use teamspeak anymore for that main reason. Thats just my preference really, I cant stand useless chatter.

Is TG still working towards setting up our own mumble server?

Apophis has been extremely busy lately and I haven't heard anything else about this. I will ping him later this week and see what we can do.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
Remember, all TG community is welcome to use the PR Official mumble server, any TG admin send me PM and can register you and get you admin rights on the TG channel in mumble which is already setup.
If you need a different setup for the TG channel (so 2 teams are in different channels), let me know.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
I couldn't wait any longer.
I went to get myself a mumble voice server from http://www.mumblevoice.com instead.
At least it is within my budget and everything is good so far.
Low latency & crystal clear as expected.
Love mumble! Never turn back!

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
I have a general mumble use question.
I noticed on the PR mumble server that there are separate channels for Team1 & Team2, but the first time I logged on, everyone was in the same channel. Is this how it is? Or should we be in the separate Team channels like on TS?
