Re: Mumble voip!
I've got a problem.
I'm using a USB Headset/Microphone from Logitech
This is what mine looks like when I do the Audio --> Settings

Why does mine look different from this guy's in the video.

I'm missing all the other tabs, and yes I currently do have the most up to date version of mumble.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
I really like the realism mumble brings, but am weary of extended use as it leads to severe headaches. If TS and squad comms in game were disabled completely, I as the SL only had comms to the commander and Mumble, then It would be very enjoyable, and supremely realistic. Otherwise It's just overlapping chatter and me running around yelling "make it stop, make it stop" more than usual.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
If you think 100m is to much pull it down to 50m yourself thats what I did and its great for me. Hopefully newer versions of mumble will be in with fixed settings so that we don't have to have people complaining about the program when they havn't even set it up right...

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
i dont think mumble should be a substitute for squad voip. last night i joined a squad that was only using mumble...i didnt have it yet. i tried to comunicate with squad viop, and got no response. now imagine a first time pubbie joining. at least i knew about mumble...people who dont will get frustrated and leave (like i did).

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
Was incredibly chaotic the two rounds me and my squad was using mumble. Made teamspeak squads from then on, requiring my squad members to get in our TS channel and the rounds improved from then on and eventually I got some good members. Even after getting on TS I was rather frustrated by the lack of inter-squad teamwork though. By the time I got a decent squad I was getting so fed up by the general nubbery that I probably wasn't doing great as a squad leader.
As to mumble, it'll certainly find it uses and it is obviously the most realistic substitute to teamspeak out there, but that doesn't mean that it improves communication(quite the opposite). I don't know about you guys, but I'm not going to start yelling or whispering into my microphone depending on where the enemy is and how far away squad members are. Currently, I've found Mumble useful for two things; overhearing hostile chatter and communicating with other nearby squads, particularly transport designated squads(pilots, drivers.

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
I use it as an addition to squad VOiP. If I have a whole squad on mumble I start to brief my squad about what we are going to do, and then I assign a fire team leader which will lead Bravo team. The fire team leaders communicate with each other (If split up) via squad VOiP and squad members communicate via mumble. To me it gives much more immersion to the game (And it gives me a reason to have mission briefings :P)

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
Ehh I don't get it what is this mumble? Is it a part of TS software that is working with BF2 and taking distances from BF2 to TS? Or what are you guys talking about?
*edit* already found it

Re: The purpose of mumble !!! & communication
Mumble identifies where you are in-game, so if you and another person are using mumble and theother person stands on your left you hear him from the left. You can also set a max range that you can hear, meaning that if you set your max range at 50m and the guy is talking to you from 60m you cannot hear him.
Mumble is not TS, I use TS for long range messages to other Squad leaders. I use mumble when I talk to squadmembers that are close and squad leaders that are close. It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
