Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
I agree...
I find most often that squads bring my individual performance down.
When I get a good squad together, my basic line of thought is stay the hell away from me and rez me when I go down.
Medic's do rock. On any forest map its boomboom rush full auto = victory. (Or Camp if you need that split second).
I think .85 is a bit more fun then .8, but I do think the dev's took it a bit too far.
They made a a couple of changes I would disagree with, the no death from HS would be one of them.
I joined in .8, and it forced me to be very very careful with my movements, and pick my shots carefully and slowly. 85 allows me to rush a whole lot more on my own.
I do feel that Seal extravagated the issues, but it certainly grabbed my attention
.
Between teamwork or twitch gameplay, I feel Teamwork+ twitch just rocks. Twitch can still rock, but tactics/strategies still have some effect in direction of attack.. etc etc... flanking, when to flank, when to retreat... depends on squad/player skill (sorry twitch skill).
But perhaps its not AS dire. I'd say the problem are with the size of maps to be honest, and maybe tone down the accuracy a bit more... not to .8 state, but somewhere in between.
I think engine limitations have made PR reach what it can.. but then they might surprise us again. ( And yes, I do know what I'm talking about with Engine limitations, I've modded games for over 10 years - nothing to this extent, but enough to understand the complexities involved)
I wonder if they'll move it... everyone's talking about that.
I'mma have to try this ARMA thing... I got a brand spanking new card..!!? is around the corner.
? did that come from.
? killed me.
? Who, What, Where. All the time.
The Question Mark.

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
If anyone doesn't find it realistic I will be taking a road trip in august to parts of the midwest and will be more than happy to stop by your house or college dorm, or your parents house if you live between NY and Kansas and will gladly have you stand in front of my car and run you over and also be more than happy to buy a bb or paint ball gun and shoot you in the buttocks or in the chest or in the back, to show you just how real PR can be.
You don't even have to have your wife, or parents or friend sign a waiver I will do it for free.
What do I ask people to bring to the table when I am a squad member, CO, or SL?
- Working mic
- asking the SL if they may request a kit
- Team play, team work attitude
- willingness to defend if need be, and not complain about it
- offer suggestions, not back seat squad lead or back seat command
- be courteous and mature
- have fun also and if they are new i always say check out the forums.
I don't put up with BS, and i don't want to have to smell it, if i wanted that I would go walk to Eliot Spitzer's apartment or Madoff's apartment and ask them if they knew what they were doing was wrong and unjust.
I think the Dev's and the testers have done a great job, I have been fortunate enough to have started playing PR right around .4 or so, i think and found out about the TG server in .5 i think? (I remember my first match being al Basrah with the US APC's being used and the APC's still being a spawn point).
And if there is any future testing that needs to be done I will be more than happy to volunteer and help out with it.Last edited by Delta*RandyShugart*; 02-17-2009 at 07:23 PM. Reason: forgot to add the crucial "n't" at the end of does in my opening sentence

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
i think that some need to remember this is 0.xxx version.. i didnt like a lot of 0.8 and 0.85 is IMHO the best i played (started just before 0.7something) they are tweaking the gameplay! and to bash the mod like that is out of place IMO.. it makes me think.. how old are you? its clear you didnt give the dev's any input on the version, which makes me think.. do you care for this mod? do you like it?
i think any response is justifyd (maybe not ANY response) by us! the players who love this mod! for such a bushing..
to read jaymz response makes me think that posting this thread is even more out of place..
on a side note.. i "practice" on other servers (other then TG that is) and IMO.. teamwork counts! it becomes obvious on other servers..
pardon my english.
thanks

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
Just wait for OPF2 and hopefully the BF2 engine can go screw itself in a corner somewhere.
Because that is the whole problem.

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
Are you sure that really is the problem? Because i could have sworn it was the entire community of "yes men" the mod has...
Hell, they could change the firing system to one where you have no weapons but tag enemies by spotting them in the comm-rose and then select afterwards "Fire" which would send a request to the CO to fire at that enemy and only then there would be a 25% chance of him taking a hit. And the community will still praise the direction the mod is heading in.

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
I think that basically to solve most of your problems all they have to do is turn back the accuracy to what is was in .8, because right now it is true that it's who ever has been sitting the longest win the fire fight. But also I would say don't complain yet because all of the new kids will be off PR in a few weeks, or they will be experienced enough to make a the game enjoyable again.

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
I think a simple goodbye, we do not wish to play Project Reality anymore because it does not appeal to our game style would have sufficed. The fact that you spent what seems to have been a decent amount of time to write a "Guide" in which you proceeded bash the mod was completely out of line and I believe should be followed up by an apology. Show some Respect.

I for one think you should get ALL your money back from the makers of this Project Reality game.
You should maybe send a letter to your congressmen and let them know how much money these blacksandstudio guys have taken you for. It's outrageous. What's weird about a young goats head, smoking a joint, tied with a scarf to a mobile artillery gun? - Jeepo

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
Funny first post. Although I wonder what this mod is he is talking about.
All the accuracy changes, tbh, have barely ever influenced how I play infantry. Whatever the accuracy is, I try to set up some people providing covering fire, then move in under cover or flank. The deviation feels a lot more convincing to me now, and that is important too.
Proper tactics will always beat no tactics, whatever the deviation. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: Lessons in .85: Things to Pack
I for one enjoy playing as infantry again. 0.8 was horrible because people where just too busy vehicle farming that they forgot there was such a thing as infantry combat. Really can 't say I liked the way the DEVs tried to simulate movement affecting accuracy and I have to admit I hardly enjoyed playing as infantry.
Don't understand why you are bashing on teamwork though, it isn't any different than any of the previous versions, even though the mechanics changed... I challenge you to take on a full squad on your own. You can have the best shot you want, you still won't stand a chance against a squad that knows what teamwork is.
