Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
People don't take me seriously or just refuse to listen. Sure I can report them which sometimes I do, but I am really beginning to think the admins don't take me seriously either. People just think I'm a joke and I have nothing important to say.
Often when I'm CO or SL and someone isn't listening and I get on them about it: I get a response along the lines of Shut Up you 10-year-old. Same deal with the reporting. Yes I see admins online in the game, and it's typed in Global so any admin playing sees it. I know CC admins can see squad text.

not true fighter, you just have to stand tall, just because a player isn't kicked right away if you report them doesn't mean the admins are not watching, or it won't be recorded, or won't be dealt with at anytime. Tell the CO to quit yapping his trap, and not to disrespect other players if he gives you a hard time, and put him in his place, but do it in a way that he won't cry about.
Same thing goes with players, tell them what you expect of them etc, and if they don't want to listen kick em, that's what i do.Randy = Ace ! - Warlab

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
I rarely SL during the day. Like most people, I'm just not use to giving orders. I've always played PR as a SM, and I've gotten good at that. So it hard to give that up and start being the leader.
Sometimes I will SL later at night, when their are less regulars on and I feel like the team needs someone. Yesterday, the server crashed, and I got back on when it was empty on Asad Khal and started a squad. I never intended on being an SL. The squad was even called "Logistyx", but it quickly filled up and I stuck with it for the entire round. That was the first time I played as an SL for an entire map, and we ended up winning. It felt good to have people listening to my orders, and it helped that I had a good squad.

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
I have some personal reasons for not squadleading these days...
As a family man I don't get time to play any games till late at night when everyone's asleep, so I don't like to talk. I also keep an ear out in case my son wakes up crying, and I don't want to suddenly ditch a squad AFK without notice if he does so.
As it is I rarely play much at all since it doesn't seem worthwhile to hop in if I'm only going to be on for an hour or so.
Other than that...I'm often slightly wasted then and don't make a lot of sense.

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
If I'm a squad member, it's because I don't want to lead at that time... long day and need to unwind.
My squads usually take a lot of talking, thinking, and coordinating.. and I don't always get a full squad of regulars. Put two and two together and it's a lot of explaining, complaining, and frustration. Not what I need when I just want to kill a few people. That's also why you might see me typing in squad instead of talking on my mic. Because I logged on to relax and kill.
I can understand a lot of people not wanting to step up and take the responsibility. I personally don't like to retake another SL's spot because the way I run a squad is entirely different than most squads I've been in and I think that most people joined up (or don't join up with mine) because of my style. So if I do happen to take over SL, I usually just lead it like a normal 6-man squad, 'follow the mother duck' style because it's a lot easier and less frustrating and people are familiar with that style.
As for people being afraid of running SL as if you're going to screw something up, my tips for you: Follow your favorite SL(s) and see what they do. What do you like about them and what do you dislike about everyone else. Then make a squad and try to mimic them. If you can atleast do a little bit of that.. you shouldn't be afraid to step up and give it a go. Just talk and you should be good. =)

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
You're going to make a wonderful father someday, Skud, if you haven't already.

As for me. Honestly, being a squad leader for me is just a reflex part of the game now.- Join server.
- Look for compitent squad leader. If compitent squad leader found, join squad.
- Otherwise, create new squad.
- Round ends.
- New Round. Start squad.
I don't even wait at the start of a new round. I always make a squad. This is starting to sound like a rant about the fact that not enough people SL on the server, but the truth is I don't really mind... actually it would be more accurate to say I don't care. I just make a squad and move on. Sure, I'd like to ride at the back of the bus every once in a while. And occasionally, I'll join a game mid-round and find another squad to play with for a bit. But at the beginning of every new round its always the same: Create New Squad.

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
Personally, when I do infantry, I lead, about 99% of the time.
When I don't feel like doing any decision making, I hop into/create a transport/CAS squad.
Only time I really think I'm a squad member is either when the server population is extremely low, or when it's already halfway through the round and there aren't many other options available

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
People dont squadlead, beacuse they are a bunch of chickens....and not because they are new to the game. You see alot of people that a regular players on the server, that does exactly as Axis_Sniper explains - leaves and rejoin as soon as the SL leaves...
Begin with:
*take the first step
*dont be afraid of kicking people, thats not doing as they are told.
*congratulated the squad when they do something good (keeps the moral up)

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
Squad leading can be hard, can be easy, depends on the map, the opposition, the team and your squad. Also depends how much you are willing to put in to it. I know that if I run a squad in a half assed manner I usually get what I deserve results wise. Sometimes I jump in another SL's squads, maybe the round has been going for a while, maybe I don't like the map, maybe I just want to play with the chap who is sl'ing.
One thing is certain the only way to get experience is to start leading, if you are unsure speak to a regular SL and ask if he will give you some tips or maybe just sit in the squad with you. Be firm with your squad about what you need and want that round and try to enjoy the fact you have 5 minions to send into the firing line lol. Get on TS as well, you can then bounce ideas off the other SL's in real time which is always useful. Good Sl's do this anyway, i.e. I'm going to hit that flag from A3 west of the flag, any intel? Err don't do that they have armour at that grid etc.
And then sometimes I am either, tired, irritated or a bit 'emotional (beered up)' and just want to mess about in a little squad with a couple of mates.
If you don't SL now, give it a go, great fun most of the time and more rewarding then simply sitting in a squad when it goes right. When it goes wrong you get a free lesson in how to improve for the future.TG PR Admins: Fighting for YOU on the frontlines in the War on Stupidity.

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
I squad lead a lot, but when I am not squad leading it is usually because:
- Too stressed out, or don't want to talk too much
- Round is too far in to start a squad up
- Probably won't be around for the entire round
- Want to try something new besides using an officers rifle, and bark orders
- Check out, and see how other people are running their squads - meet new people
- There are already enough squad leaders

Re: Why do people avoid SLing like the plague?
in my opinion,
after a long day,
it is more relaxing to sl than to s&m
unless the sl is someone i respect, my ego tells me i can do his job better.
or maybe im just a loudmouth
