It's made quite an influence that's for sure, warrior squads, India squads, Zulu squads... It's the beginning of a new era; a dawning of a new age...

Bump. In Zedic's absence communication now sucks.
Him being gone is no excuse! Shape up.

Re: Zedic's Military Radio Procedure Adaptation.
Yeah, I haven't heard enough OSCAR MIKES or OVER.
I think we do pretty fine without having to get too technical. Competent squad leaders do not require a guide of how to talk. Most of TG has taken to callsigns either by squad or by name. The SL channels are much better now than they ever were...
EDIT: Zedic didn't go anywhere, btw.

Re: Zedic's Military Radio Procedure Adaptation.
"Hey cougar/T-Man/Lion/Rudd, what do you have over there?"
"A BMP on the north side with Infantry in the bunkers."
"Okay, Im coming."
That does fine.
"UHHH CALLSIGN NINER NINER BRAVO, WHAT IS YOUR SIT REP, OVER?"
"WE HAVE 1 TIME BMP APROXIMATLY 50 METERS TO MY NORTH WITH FOOT MOBILES TAKING DEFENSIVE POSTIONS,OVER"
"ROGER, I AM EN ROUTE, ETA 30 SECONDS. OVER."
Sounds corny as hell. If I wanted to people to yell at me uber-arm-chair-general-lingo I would just find a recruiting office.

Thanks Spitfire, I take offense to that. I appreciate you taking a crap on something I got published in PC Gamer for. Eat it.

Re: Zedic's Military Radio Procedure Adaptation.
I have that article. I was like, "Hey, that looks like Zedic's.. uh.. Ooh."
No, but seriously, communications in PR anymore are "Uh, there's a BMP north of us."
Who's us?
Where are you?
Where's the BMP, specifically?
Are you under threat by it?
Who might be under threat by it?
Which way's it moving?
Is it stationary?
Does it have any other vehicles nearby?
Crap like that is one of the reasons I don't much care for flying CAS with Gunships (Cobra, Apache/Havok) anymore.

Re: Zedic's Military Radio Procedure Adaptation.
You're the one who actually mentioned Generation Kill in your post!
I mean, the post is great and all, don't get me wrong. I read it all when it was first posted and took some things from it.
But I have to do proper radio procedure IRL. It's tiresome. It's boring. It's not something I want to do with 16 year old 1337 kids on the server. I cringe hearing OSCAR MIKE or OVER, because it's just... silly. We're playing a game. I don't want PR to ever become some SOP referencing game, where I spend more time alt-tabbed out making sure I do things per SOP rather than slay some freakin' bodies - which is why I play PR. I like to slay freakin' bodies in a semi-realism inspired game with freakin' headshots - all day.
So if someone on Mumble or TS want's to take the time to correct me on how I play my game, that's cool. If you guys want to use SITREPS and LOCSATS and cool words, that's cool. But like, don't try and force it on others. And don't get all pissy when players think it's silly, because really, we're all here for the same game and reason. If we want to play with our modes of communication, let us. If you guys want to use the ALTERNATE SL CHANNEL to do these kind of things, that's rad. Nobody's going to look at you funny if you want to spend a Sunday afternoon doing things by the book. Nobody. Ok?
Good grief.
K.I.S.S. has been working for...ever.
Here's how stuff goes down with the people I enjoy playing with:
"Other SL, (Squad Number if I haven't been playing with them) Skud"
"Go ahead/yo/send it/whatsup."
"(Whatever needs doing/question/inquiry/order)"
"Alright/OK/Roger/any other short comment needed."
The end. Anything else is pretty much kept simple - we don't interrupt eachother because we just wait and say "go ahead" when the other person needs to cut in. There's no real lingo, no overs - we know when people stop talking. If they need anymore information, they ask. Things in PR are generally on a need-to-know basis. I don't need to know everything, only what I think is important for the mission.
I think this thread is great for players new to using Mumble here at TG - it helps them learn some basic concepts and some of this stuff really can fit in when the situation provides. But as far as TG players adapting it, it's just not gonna happen. The last thing I want to do when I'm off duty is spend time pretending to be in the military. Cause I am. And well, I keep my life separate from my duty. That is all. Most of the guys we play with are just average joe's - and I love the average guys. They don't know all the fancy rifles, they don't know all the fancy terms, but they're eager to learn and contribute a lot to PR. There's no need for these guys to convert to some SOP on radio procedures just because it's cooler. PR players communicate, generally, quite effectively.
And it seems many have completely ignored text chat - which a mindful SL always has his eyes on. Many, MANY requests can be fullfilled with one line of short text. Heck, some even in game, without typing or utilizing any voice comms at all. The commo rose is pretty handy! And the mindful pilot/driver will notice these things.

Re: Zedic's Military Radio Procedure Adaptation.
Just because someone can K.I.S.S. doesn't always mean they can convey relevant information properly.
I for one applaud Zedic for the guide, and suggest that while it may not need be followed to a tee we should especially pay attention to some of the non-diction related sections of the post (Such as the ABCs of communication, and information filtering).
I for one am sick and tired of others spending a half-minute on mic to tell me there's enemy vehicles to their north, because they continually "Uh," and "uhm,"ed me to death as they figured out the info.
