Re: Angry Squad Leaders
Yes I had a very good squad on that round. Was a shame your squad was not listening to you. I got really pissed when that squad, which consisted of 6 members of an outside clan, just started building without any communication.
Efforts to try and seek communication failed, sadly they had build their firebase and AA in such a bad spot, that we could not set other firebases. By the time we got around this the CAS crushed us.
This round was a very good example how one squad made it almost impossible to get setup and return any resistance for the whole team. luckely near the end we managed to counter!
Yes I got angree!

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
Well angry squadleaders are usually the ones who get a group of irregular players going.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
What's really worse tho, a SL loosing temper on VOIP, or a SL rage-quiting?

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
So instead of just leaving to command you kick the remaining member out of spite? Any you wonder why some people avoid your squads....
First and foremost, this is a game. I tend to treat it like I used to treat training. Screw up once and learn or move on. I may make a sarcastic remark if someone steps on their schwanze but if they toe the line afterwards no harm, no foul. I save the kicking for guys who just aren't wired right (griefers, folks who either don't speak or understand English) and those who just plain don't listen). Since I blew away .85 to focus on testing I've been out of the game for awhile but I'm definitely looking forward to jumping back in on Friday.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
Good point.
I don't tend to like it when SL's kick people because they make a mistake no matter how small it is.
Fighter (in case you don't do this already) maybe tell people before the game starts that if they request kits without asking they'll be kicked.
It's weird that this happens to you commonly, they've probably seen you on the server like how your squads are and are taking advantage of that, cheeky bastards.|TG-69th|Berlancic2"Speed. Aggression. Surprise."

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
I can understand how some SLs get mad. When a plan just falls apart and everyone ends up dead in a heartbeat, people could have done things better or avoided doing certain things all together. I just laugh it off, say "Alright, lets try that again, except without all that dieing stuff we just did." And try a different path. If someone does something I dont like, I just give them a heads up not to do it again. "Dont grab a sniper rifle/HAT/Flamethrower without asking next time. Thanks."

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
I think patience is important when being an SL. If you feel the squad is not following you, examine yourself and make sure you are communicating properly. If that is not the problem, re-iterate to your squad your intentions and instructions. I find when SLing that letting the squad know what you are trying to do is a huge thing. Communication is the key.
If you have a wayward squad member, let him know and don't be shy in kicking them from the squad. Better to have a new member that is supportive than to get mad at one that is not. I agree with Spitfire, if a squad member takes a kit without asking, let him know, but give him a chance to use it before demanding the removal of the kit.
It is important as a SL to go at the pace YOU want to go. Don't let the squad or game conditions dictate to you how fast you enter combat. This is PR - Project Reality - not some video game where the timer is on. That is another aspect of being an SL that I think some folks forget.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
Your right there I believe. I think that squad leaders going at an advanced pace to their usual is sort of like peer pressure. I would find that a rare case though. More so it's if a commander is talking in your ear, he's probably telling you to move your arse and step it up, I find that motivating.
When you've got team co-ordination where people are depending on you, I'd find it hard to go at your own pace (if it is a slower one).
Wreckingcrew is the best example of a fast SL I believe. He's always the first to drive off in that commtruck from base, and warrior's always telling the team "TOO SLOW!".
He just has a simple plan that's effective too. It's great.|TG-69th|Berlancic2"Speed. Aggression. Surprise."

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
I would advise you on stopping to try and be a succesful SL. Focus instead on creating sort of a story, or mini-missions and objectives for your squad. Other than that just try to keep everyone alive.
Your squad should often bring you all the experience you need with their combined input if you are unsure what to do. Creating sub-objectives will invariably create some experiences of succes, and that motivates yor squad so in the end they will be working better together, and will be more succesful.
There is a detour on the road to a good round of squadleading, and its called fun.
If I'd say want to get my squad to walk across a whole map to a diff flag, with the highly likely result of getting shot, ask them and suddenly its just not your crappy idea, it's all of their crappy idea too. And you might laugh while getting shot
.
Ah just try to make it a good fight, instead of succesfull pwnage. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
A big part of what and how I run my squad depends on how many experienced players I have and I mostley look on the map to see what the other squads are doing and where they are located.
As for gettting angry, I don't get angry alot, I adapt my missions to the squad. Sometimes I have difficult squad members; they tend to run off a bit and be not close to the squad. I then decide to do more simple tasks.
If I have memebers that stay close, I will adapt to more agressive tactics and more movements.
Sometimes I start a squad because there is a need for a squad, but I don't feel like it. Then I also switch to more easy squadleading and less tactics.

Re: Angry Squad Leaders
What really pisses me off was how much teamstacking there was yesterday on the server. I actually saw IHS members switch one by one to the otherside. The effect was that we lost like 4-5 rounds shamefully without any real resistance. This was not because we didn't want to, but because we were left with alot of new people.
I mean how funny is it to end 3 rounds so quickly and then say good game?
The few experienced players that stayed behind tried to lead the newcomers and I want to thank you for that (Startrekern, Gijoe, Lion and others I forget)
Admins and respected IHS mebers were there. I asked multiple times to mix the team up a little, before I gave up.
I don't often complain or give up, but yesterday really made me feel ashame when the new people kept asking why all the IHS were in the other team.
