Re: Quick Mumble Poll
When people aren't playing with it....constantly saying/yelling "mumble" or similar (which was fun the day it was introduced and that was it) it is a very useful tool. Calling out a contact report and watching green guys AND blue guys turn in that direction; is my main attraction to it.
When people are playing with it, or TS, or the volume is just getting unbareable.... I offer you this:

Berlancic
I use it
Why? It has good sound quality and it enhances realism and gives a better awareness to all units on the battlefield in the area, in my opinion.
There is but 1 thing I do not like, and it is not the actual mumble system, it is the people. Sometimes there is lots of spam on it. I recall on one of the first few days of it being used in PR, some dude kept spamming russian, as in, shouting shaska and prichivnic and others into his mic.|TG-69th|Berlancic2"Speed. Aggression. Re: Quick Mumble Poll
The key difference here is that with in-game voip, if someone in your squad is spamming chat and you tell them to shut up and they dont, you can kick them. With mumble, you cant necessarily do that because the spammer might not be in your squad, and then we get to tack on yet another thing the admins have to deal with.
To this end, I did try it. Installed it, used it, hated it. I got on and it was a 2 hour spam fest. Anytime anyone tried to say anything tactical or relevant, it was blurred out by the nonsense in the background. Oh yeah, that and the people who cant seem to figure out how to keep their finger off the broadcast-all button. I suppose this might be better in a strictly monitored and to-the-business environment, like a scrim. But for average, everyday play, I much prefer only having 5 other people talking in my ear then 32.You're welcome to evaluate all you want. The only thing I have an issue with is people who won't even try it, usually because they have false beliefs which would quickly change if they gave it a go.
You expect their communication, and if they dont, they get the boot, just like it is now and always has been. TG doesnt require you to use a mic, but we do require communication. So regardless of whether or not you can hear/speak/type, communicating with your fellow players is compulsory here.A better comparison is between mumble and having BF2 VOIP enabled (being able to hear people), if someone joined your squad and couldn't hear what you were saying, what would you do?
Good for them. It wont ever happen here unless in-game voip is replaced by mumble. As I said, we dont require the use of specific software or hardware, but we do require communication. There is already a server running with compulsory mumble, and it's been very successful.
All that being said, as stated, its a great program. Certainly a step up from teamspeak in terms of singular functionality. But its not for everyone.

Re: Quick Mumble Poll
I wonder what the question is. Do you like mumble? Or do you like how mumble is used. Despite, there's good points on both sides. I guess the people make up mumble, so it's one whole question, or something. I dont know.
If someone is spamming you can mute them so that you cannot hear them. This should take a few seconds from your game time.
Yes mumble is not famous for the people who use it on PR.|TG-69th|Berlancic2"Speed. Aggression. Surprise."

Re: Quick Mumble Poll
Fair enough. I don't really understand how people are experiencing these spam fests, i've used it nearly every day since the 0.5 release and only had 1 incident (well he was banned 10 seconds later). I guess if people are talking on force centre I miss it by being in the SL chan

Re: Quick Mumble Poll
same here, I have not experienced this at all either, even in the regular channel i have never experienced any type of spam fest. Ferris did you have TS on as well? Were you in the appropriate channel?
You will get the occasional "can you hear me?" "What side is this" which I have done as well, and someone will answer "yes" "This is team x, we are the y side" and voila either the player leaves to the other channel or stays.Randy = Ace ! - Warlab

Re: Quick Mumble Poll
Its exactly the same as someone spamming TS. You always have the option to mute them.

Re: Quick Mumble Poll
Oh sure, you can mute anyone you want. Personally, I'd rather not have to take the time to do so every time I play because people still think the novelty of being able to talk to the whole team is cool and abuse it. As stated, in a scrim environment where stepping out of line meant a reaming and other consequences, it might be fine. But for everyday play, its just too much hassle.

Re: Quick Mumble Poll
I think you'll find that people have gotten over the "new toy!" aspect of Mumble and stopped spamming it for fun. That stuff happened months ago and every time I use Mumble now it's all teamwork in the TG channels.
I understand if you don't like running Mumble + Teamspeak + whateverelseyoucouldpossiblyfind,DL,anduse but from a strict gameplay and teamwork contribution standpoint it is like no other.

I've noticed that mumblers tend to try and get on the same team :P
I've also noticed that the team the mumblers are on...always wins
Please notice that chaps
mumble is a teamwork orientated tool that allows teamwork unprecedented in Public PR games.
non-TG servers are much worse for Spam since they have 64 people in teh same channel, which can lead to alot of undesirable gameplay alongside the fantastic gameplay.
Here's to Mumble .6/whatever may it come soon and fix the bad, so the good may shine through much stronger.
