Re: Vehicle & weapons question
I would pay 30-60 per year max, so if it was monthly it would need to be down to 2.50 to 5 dollars a month max for me to be interested. While they do add content WoW justifies their monthly amount by having seasonal content, new areas and revamping of existing ones, constant class changes etc along with hosting the servers the game is played on. PR does not have updates in a comparable amount and I doubt they will be hosting servers so the price as a subscription would have to be a lot lower to be justified for me.
Just because everyone does something does not mean that it is right to do.

Re: Vehicle & weapons question
It's a different scene, though.
WoW doesn't need much actual content really done, beside every now and then smacking together a player-model for whatever item they now have, and typing in values and etc...
There's a lot more that goes into the content in PR, and therefore could be considered more 'quality' whereas WoW's is very much simply adding values for damage/properties and sometimes making an actual model for the weapon (often enough, especially for the lower level items, they reuse the same model tenfold).
I think it's actually pretty comparable... also, a lot of patches are bug fixes to the large amounts of content that they add in, whereas PR wouldn't have many glaring bugs in gameplay mechanics, etc etc... However, like I said, I would probably do so. If I'm paying 15 dollars a month, I want my moneys worth for sure.

Re: Vehicle & weapons question
I wouldn't like the monthly fee, that would be a rip off imo. Now if it was like EA were the updates & patches were free but for map packs you would have to pay for then I would do that.

We'll just have to wait and see what money plan they'll come up with.

Re: Vehicle & weapons question
I rather pay per update, then pay per month. Seems only the right thing to do.

Re: Vehicle & weapons question
I think the issue with pay per update model is that not everyone buys the new updates that results in higher support cost of the developer but more critically it will fragment an already small player community leading to greater difficulty in getting full servers.
IMO the only models that work with niche MP games are either pay once play forever model (Downside => Ongoing support harder for devs) or a subscription based model (Downside => less popular with customers).
Given that even a weekend only gamer can get 10 hours a month (2.5 hours a week) of entertainment means that at $5 its only $0.5 per hour. At $10 its only $1 per hour. This still way cheaper than eating out, movies, live shows heck even playing organized pick up sports.

Re: Vehicle & weapons question
If you go down the pay per update model I expect consumers would want substantial content per update, i.e maps, factions and not just fixes and tweaks to things. When people start stumping up cash for what would undoubtedly be a quality product they get a lot more critical, such is life.

Re: Vehicle & weapons question
If it is gonna be pay per update, it should be for the big ones, where new factions/maps are introduced.
1 faction, or 3+ maps should require money to download. Tweaks, or bug fixes, or gameplay balance changes should be free. Not only would this breathe new life into the game, but it would be worth the money and I wouldn't mind paying money for it.

Re: Vehicle & weapons question
Sliiiiiipery slope. There is a great measure of trust that I have in the PR team that I don't immediately fear micropayments. (M203 addon for your rifle? That'll be 5$ *shudder*)
Pay per update was something that EA tried. The first "Booster Pack" was exactly what was some of you said you'd pay for. A new faction, three new maps, new vehicles and new weapons. And I know not all of us found PR before that booster came out :P How many people actually bought it?
Pay per month, so long as the updates roll regularly and the fee is reasonably low is a better option in my eyes. Better. The best is a onetime purchase price, and major updates as expansions (4+ new factions, weapons, vehicles, the whole gamut. Lots of content. Lots.)BF3 is a good game, and when they finish it, it may even be a great game.
