Re: the L85 doesnt exist
You're gonna need a license to clench your hand into a fist you say? I wouldn't doubt it. But check this, Switzerland has hardly any gun laws. You can carry an unloaded assault rifle(Keeping the magazine out) into a super market without so much as a glance. There homocide rate is nonexistent, as far as I know.

What else would you expect from a country that has remained neutral for as long as anyone can remember?

L85 with ACOG.....Not a fan.....

This set up, with the hand grip come bipod, railing and flashlight is fast become the standard layout in Afghanistan, though without the ACOG for now.....

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
Yeah I've seen pics of some british units (not sure which) with ACOG's mounted in place of Susat's. What's the deal with that? User preference? Isn't the SUSAT like, made for the SA80?
What I would like to see would be an EOTech on a L85...mhhmmmm

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
Basically they are replacing the SUSAT with ACOGs. They are lighter and just as durable. Also, they are more future proof for when we start to replace the L85, something that is apparently in the works. SUSAT wins for me, but then I have never used an ACOG.....

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
That setup looks pretty large and clunky, I think I would rather have the normal rifle without all of these addons but i have no experience.

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
Apparently the weapon is still as perfectly balanced as before. The rail is a lot lighter than the previous thick clunky plastic covering the gas works. So that ofsets the weight of the handgrips and torch. The weapons balance point is behind the pistol grip and in front of the magazine housing. That and the long barrell that extends back to the cocking handle makes it such an accurate weapon with low recoil!

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
The hand grip being so close to the pistol grip looks like it would reduce accuracy to be honest. It's like when you see people holding M16 variants by the mag housing, leads to a wandering barrel. Personally the shortness of the horizontal hand guard is such on the SA80 that you think they would want it forward a touch and perhaps go for a side mounted tactical light if you have to have one or simply a smaller light.
Looks very cluttered and with the proximity of both hands you would almost be holding the weapon with 2 handed pistol style grip. Might be comfy but would reduce accuracy even taking into account the SA80's longer barrel being set further to the rear.TG PR Admins: Fighting for YOU on the frontlines in the War on Stupidity.

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
For me it is the opposite of what you describe wicks. When I was learning to shot my C7/C8 (canadian produced m16/m4) I found it more accurate to hold the mag then the barrel. I always held the magasine when shooting because it felt natural to me and I was a better shot when holding this way.
If people are becoming so bored when playing that they have to resort to this immature behaviour I will give them something to do, call it a project. The project is "appeal a ban". - Wicks

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
That is interesting Kat and I'm surprised, it reminds me of a specific weapon, maybe the old AK variants that had the front and rear sights too close together. This actually led to the barrel wandering and reduced accuracy, I wonder if you were simply more comfortable with that 'ready' position and therefore had better accuracy. In theory as long as your arms are not 'over extended', under unnatural tension and therefore prone to muscle tremors the arms being further apart should give you a wider support platform and thus a more stable firing position. I suppose it depends how you are most comfortable and how you can best get the weapon system 'in to your shoulder' and sighted.

Re: the L85 doesnt exist
The knife thing needs to be done by the way, for those the other side of the pond we may not have much gun crime but the knife problem is out of control in some areas, they have become a fashion accessory. It's got to the stage where you can't just go around punching people anymore in case some coward pulls a knife lol. Oh I miss the good old days (sigh).
