Re: Aircraft landing in quinling and kashan!
Random question incoming:
If I shoot an AA while it's not locked on to anything, can the missile lock onto something else later down the road?

Re: Aircraft landing in quinling and kashan!
Mat is correct. This has happened before when firing my AA missiles just south of the bunkers in the direction of S.W. they have travelled and hit something at Mec Main. Such as on Muttrah it happens often :P

It's absolutely impossible to happen on Muttrah, the Carrier has an invisible missile shield.

I find that weapons that have locked and then lost their lock, are a lot more likely to randomly lock onto another target 1500m away than missles fired with no lock in the start.

Im pretty sure if you fire it without a lock, it wont lock on anything else. Only if you had already locked on to something, and it dropped flares and your missile went through the flares without exploding - the AA missile will lock on whats closest.

Startrekkin, I'll admit I've not seen it since 0.75 but I never heard anything about these shields...

Re: Aircraft landing in quinling and kashan!
They were put in after quite a few times of missiles reaching helicopters on the carrier (Barracuda and Muttrah were the biggest offenders, Jabal having much less times wherein it was an issue). They don't stop vehicles or players, but they stop all munitions from coming in (but not going out). For instance, you can fire a hydra towards the carrier, and if you are close enough to the shield it will see it literally explode midair in front of you.
They are only on carrier maps (as far as I know) due to the fact that the carrier has no natural obstructions (no hills or trees or even artificial structures like HESCO or actual buildings, unlike almost all other maps) around it to prevent the missile from hitting.

It was barracudah that got that shield implemented, as randomly fired chinese aa missiles decimated the us carrier a lot.
BF3 is a good game, and when they finish it, it may even be a great game.

No, it's present on all maps with carriers now. If you come back from a hydra run, expend the rest of your ordinance randomly about 100m out. It'll blow up in your face.

Re: Aircraft landing in quinling and kashan!
I think mat was referencing Barracuda as the map that caused the forcefield to be deployed on all maps.

Re: Aircraft landing in quinling and kashan!
It happened on both Muttrah and Barracuda. There was a higher frequency of it happening on Barracuda, but they were both prone to it.

BUMP*
this tactic is still takin place when one of the team as air superiority on the map, I didnt get shot down though, because Ive learned to land from outside the map(hehehe)
But spitfire was shot down taking off in a frogfoot, and he cursed a lot, Im sure he now agree on how lame this tactic really is.

Any problem on Earth can be solved with the careful application of high explosives.
