there is even a "link" button you can press on mumble.

Ulink can be fixed by entering any asset, Alt Tab, Pressing "link" or starting mumble before PR.

Re: Is there anybody out there?

I come back to my earlier request about disabling alltalk in the main team channel. When I'm busily squadleading, i'm talking on mumble, voip and TS. Even the occasional "oh I just crashed" kind of remark, or "whatt is the password" and other **** can seriously disturb my squads functionality.

It doesn't happen much, but if there are many players on mumble, it is too much. I'm on the brink of saying goodbye to mumble personally if it doesn't improve, or maybe I'll have to sit in the SL channel all the time.

To everyone: DO NOT TELL US THE WHETHER YOU CRASHED or any of that useless muttering.

PS If people organize 17th century tactics rounds, plz tell the rest of the team instead of letting them go off to die alone without support. Your on mumble, not to do it is really poor teamwork below TG standards.

Re: Is there anybody out there?

Without someone telling me they crashed, I may seek to immediately fill that slot with another player. I think it's fair for the words "I Crashed" to be spoken as quickly as they can be heard, just to let your SL know you didn't abandon them to go get a fresh pie or something.
BF3 is a good game, and when they finish it, it may even be a great game.

Re: Is there anybody out there?

I agree Al, but its not an easy feature to add.

The new 1.2.0 mumble is out, and offers many cool new upgrades/features.

Unfortunately the alltalk disable is not a feature (yet) but hopefully we can add this to PR version of mumble eventually, as we all agree its a much needed feature, along with auto-switching players to the right team and auto-moving squad leaders into the SL channel, which is also a complicated thing that may or may not be possible.

But yea, it does get prety annoying to hear things like, especially because they are always usually said while theyre loading or out of game so we hear it globally
"Hey what team is this channel?"
    "Hey is my mic working"
    "Hello everyone!"
    and my favorite :
"Hey what server are you guys on?"

I think the complexities of automatically putting people in SL channels is a waste of time. I don't think I see SL's on our server that DONT use the SL channels...

Re: Is there anybody out there?

I think a quick little message like "I justed CTDed, i'm coming back," is ok and I don't mind when people say that. But when people have conversions outside the game or some of fuzzhead's examples it does get pretty annoying.

Re: Is there anybody out there?

    Thanks for the heads-up Fuzz.

In principle I do agree that a short "PlayerX crashed- coming back" is perhaps fair. On the other hand...

If a squadmember suddenly pops out of existence in the game, you can just hold his spot for 5 minutes, or alternatively allow a new member in, and when the person that got disconnected returns, you kindly explain the situation to the new member and make room for the old one. So in the end, the crashing-voice message is redundant.

The problem is that it never ends at the stated situation. There are many players on mumble that don't give a **** about TG comms standards. And when I'm talking to people on SL channel, to the CO, to my squadmembers, and possibly to a driver with normal mumble...

If I'm in a battle even the shortest message is highly disturbing as I'm already juggling no les then FOUR comms systems at once (actually 5 since I use TS as well).
In the end it is not NEEDED, so it should not be done imo. The only acceptable use of force center, is doing a mike-check when you have already spawned it, to test if your positional audio is working and you are thus not bothering people by accidentally failing to use positional audio.
    ******
BTW. I'm also very bothered by the pile of nonsense that is pushed trough my speakers by random people between rounds. All the TS standards we had seem to have gone away here. I would use a nice keybind to deafen myself in between rounds, BUT this deafen/mute feature is totally bugged. A deafen bind would do something like mute AND deafen me, but then when pressed again, it would un-deafen me, yet leave the mute on. Whatever I tried I could not get a keybind to reliably turn off and on both ingoing and outgoing sounds. Any help with this would be very welcome. Any request for less noise in between rounds is furthermore often met with rudeness that would never be allowed on the TS servers. Usually the people doing this are people that have never connected to the TG TS, and don't give **** about limiting comms in a lobby with 31 persons, unfortunately.

I have this problem as well, I though maybe I was just retarded or something. Sometimes when I am suddenly in a firefight, or have a lot going on in my squad, I press a key to deafen myself, but it also mutes as you say, and doesn't seem to reliably unmute without alt-tabbing back to mumble and doing it manually.

Thanks for the mumble tips everyone. Worked nicely yesterday (even if I accidently muted myself).

Re: Is there anybody out there?

I think that in a perfect world, positional audio and squad/command voip would be part of the game and mumble would be just another vent or ts.

I like mumble for the ability to coordinate on the fly with peoples not in my squad. I don't really use it for SL'ing or chatting. I often have vent or ts open simultaneously with mumble and in-game voip. I think this is ridiculous and that I just started too many sentences with the word "I".

I like mumble, but only for the positional.

    I did it again.

Re: Is there anybody out there?

People talked during roundchanges in TS as well, you may have been in your inhouse squad channel, away from the PR channel though, so you probably didn't hear it.

Whats wrong with chatting when there is absolutely no chance of mission critical information existing, let alone being overridden by smalltalk?

The problem with it is that people continue talking during the squad assignment stage and you can't hear your squad.
