The more complete fix is to go with 2 binds: 1 mute, 1 deafen. deafen button toggles deafen and turns mute on if deafen is turned on. Mute button toggles mute and turns deafen on if mute is turned on.
in short, hit deafen button to mute/deafen yourself, mute button to unmute/undeafen yourself.
